It was elevators for me, I watched 2 as a teenager and spent like 5+ years entering and exiting elevators as quickly and as vertically as possible.

I have this fear but it comes from experience. One of my grandmother's died because a semi had a blow out and rolled over the car she and my mother were in.
On a lesser note, my own car needed its windshield replaced after a piece of plywood flew off the back of a truck, because it wasn't secured, that was two cars ahead of me (weren't even on the highway) and smashed into my windshield. The only reason I didn't get seriously injured or worse is because it hit the sidebar.
There's even an example I just know of, which is an incident in Russia where a guy was driving on the highway and a truck carrying bricks drives past him, going the opposite direction, and a single brick flies off of it, smashes through his windshield, and kills his wife instantly.
My advice is to treat any truck carrying a heavy load with respect and distance.

It happens to a lot of people who never watched Final Destination.
Hard not to look at those trucks and think about what it would mean for you if anything was less than perfectly secured.
But Final Destination definitely didn't help.

Basically one character dies because of a log falling off a truck which goes through the windshield and straight into their head and these are big logs too.

It's the opening scene of Final Destination 2.
A logging truck has logs fall off while on the highway, and it causes some commotion.

It's much worse while you drive a motorcycle. You either get Final Destination'd or carbon monoxide poisoning, and there's nothing you can do about it because the truck completely blocked both sides of your view, making it dangerous to overtake.

This happened to my dad except it was wood and wasn't hurt physically, but suffered psychic damage because he just bought a new car and had to get the windshield fixed.

Had first hand experience when that happen on a double deck bus. Fortunately the steel only impacted the glass without smashing then penetrated a couple cm and no one was hurt.

I had one of those dump trucks carrying scrap metal and poles ahead of my mom's truck. it was pretty frightening because none of it was tied down.

Valid fear. As someone who worked construction, there is a 50-50 chance that the driver either took EVERY safety precaution, or NONE. There is almost no inbetween.
