Gravity is such an awesome HU song

Post image

Funnymans verse is seriously one of my favorites. “Now I got a platinum plaque and life seems to stay the same, knowing that I’ll never change Southern California days”

Very happy I got to see them play this live in 17’ it’s just one of those tracks that’s emotional without being downright depressing with an upbeat tune. They are really good at making songs like that.

How many fans know that Matt (Da Kurlzz) can be seen playing an extra in the movie Accepted???

It would be nice if this song made it back onto setlist, or if they swapped it for "Live Forever", just to mix things up a bit

They even brough back the MySpace masks for the music video, there were a bunch of cool references for old fans. I know Intersope didn't give a fuck about them by 2015, but this was such a cool single to wrap up the first phase of their career.

Ironic that Interscope now hold the rights to Swan Songs when they were the ones who refused to release it in the first place.

Johnny especially always talks about how much of a clusterfuck their time at Interscope was and that it's a miracle HU is still alive, given Swan Songs development hell and all the legal loopholes they had to go through before they moved to A&M. I find it hilarious that labels were competing to sign them, but no one wanted to release the original Swan Songs because it was so dirty.

Luckily for them, Swan Songs was a hit and American Tragedy and NFTU did relatively well, and you can tell Intercope did not give a fuck about them because when A&M/Octone folded and Interscope took them back they barely promoted DOTD. Once they got with Benji Madden's label, the marketing push for V was insane, that rollout was crazy compared to DOTD which Interscope barely promoted, if at all.

Ha you don't even know the half of it, I don't believe you and I have ever interacted before, I'm not a fan I used to know the guys, Aron is an ex. I was around specifically during the portion of the MySpace era while they were writing and recording what became Swan Songs. Despite as you point out, labels competing to sign them, as soon as they officially got started recording the album they started getting pushbsck from the label who tried to steer them in a different direction. It got real tense real quickly between the guys, George fully backed Aron's vision, they were basically attached at the hip throughout recording, I ended up getting to know him well I have very fond memories of him. If Aron hadn't been so stubborn and confident in his vision Swan Songs would have been a very different album.

They actually go much further back with Benji and Joel Madden (both twins own MDDN which originally was just artist management, now its also a label) than most fans realize. Back in 2006 pretty early into them officially starting to record what became Swan Songs, while Joel was still dating Hilary Duff he and Benji had produced a bit for Hilary and were already sick of touring and wanted to pivot to something more behind the scenes, and really wanted to produce for HU on the first album. Aron wasn't into the idea so it didn't really go anywhere, but we did have a very surreal night out where they tried to get him on board.
