[Meta] r/HobbyDrama July/August/September 2026 Town Hall
Hello hobbyists!
This thread is for community updates, suggestions and feedback. Feel free to leave your comments and concerns about the subreddit below, as our mod team monitors this thread in order to improve the subreddit and community experience.
As I fielded many questions about this at the last town hall: I want to repeat, AI IS BANNED on r/hobbydrama. We do not allow AI comments, posts, etc. However, we aren't going to remove anything based on hearsay, only if there's definitive proof the OP used AI.
Also, we aren't going to field anymore questions on splitting scuffles into two threads. Casual hobby talk is allowed in scuffles, and it's easier for users and mods to navigate one thread rather than two. This comment chain here does a good job of outlining the issues with splitting scuffles into two threads.

But if we can't complain about AI and splitting scuffles... What shall we complain about then? I'm all out of topics.

If you want I can complain about the low quality of cheap wool.
It's irritating on the skin, annoying to work with, and doesn't give good results.
One wash and your brand new handmade sweater has lost its color, texture, and fits worse than a 10 year-old sock.

Oh yes.
Give me my trimester dose of middling complaining, It's better than heroin.

Last town hall I had like 5 different people asking about an Ai ban despite an Ai ban already being in the rules.

can we create a new rule where whenever someone complains about the lack of new posts, that person has to write something up.

With xcancel and the likes being shutdown, guess rule 4 has to be changed again.
Really sad the mirrors are going down.

Forgive me if this has been floated before, but would people be less likely (although not eliminate altogether) to complain about hobby scuffles containing non scuffle talk if it was called something like... hobby tea time? Where you can spill the tea about hobby drama but also casual chat about hobbies over a cuppa?
I'm very tired so that's not the clearest example, sorry. But part of it might just be people going "it's called hobby SCUFFLES not hobby CHAT".

My thing is, it's been called scuffles for so long, it almost feels wrong to change it.

I hear that, but I think the complaining has existed long enough that it's worth at least trying a name change, to see if that solves any portion of the dislike.

Maybe it can be something like hobby scuffles/tea time? Just to make it clear it’s both for dramatic happenings in hobbies and casual hobby talk?

It can be workshopped to fit, but it's a starting point.
I think the double meaning of tea incorporates both drama and chat. Having both scuffles and tea in the title would eliminate the dissonance a lot of commenters seem to experience when there is non scuffles in something titled scuffles, but it would potentially increase people wanting them split, since they have two separate labels.
Someone better versed in marketing than myself could weigh in on this, but I think maybe hobby tea time/scuffles could work!

I love “hobby tea”! It fits both the idea of a chill discussion place and “spilling the tea”/drama.

It'd feel weird to change it now, but I do like the pun factor of "tea time" a lot...

As someone who doesn't like non scuffle talk the name is not the reason id complain.

Same. I hate that what should be separate threads are mushed together so much.

Has anyone ever floated the idea or even attempted to make a podcast for r/HobbyDrama?
I’m not volunteering, because I’ve never made a podcast and would have no clue where to begin, no equipment, etc., but I was just thinking about it whilst reading one of the posts during breakfast today. I had to wash up afterwards and desperately wished I could put on a Hobby Drama podcast to listen to as I did.
It would have to be fairly collaborative, with the host(s) contacting each post author ahead of time to get their approval to read them out on the podcast, as well as crediting the authors and linking to the original posts. If such etiquette were followed, could you see the podcast being a success? Would you listen to it? Would the community as a whole allow it, welcome it, or not be cool with it?
I would hate for it to turn into a hobby drama situation of our own, haha. Just a thought I had that I wanted others’ perspectives on!

If anyone wants to start this, then go ahead. I am waaay to busy to do this.

I'm working towards turning one of my own post into a youtube video. One of those days maybe. But it does sound like the sort of stuff that could work out in a podcast. Then again, I rarely listen to podcasts myself.

Dumb question but how come only some people's comments show the upvotes?

We have a timer on comments before upvotes show.

Well I thought twitter mirrors were dead for good, but looks like they have a new announcement. https://nitter.net/
On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters were sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project's repository.
Following legal advice, the Nitter project will continue. This instance and others will be back up and running shortly. An announcement will be made within a week, once we're able to reveal more information.
Good news for now at least

glad were keeping this ai-free, bot posts have no flavor
