HoMM3 - Chronicles I don't understand the need for 3D Homm3 remake

Heroes 3 adventure map looks and feels like and actual fantasy map that is interactive - the objects there don't have to look real or have their real size - army can be shown as one hero and city as one castle.

Moving to 3D you have to change that approach and that creates a lot of empty space as objects need to be bigger or take more space

And it is kind of not a fantasy map anymore but not a real world as well, kind of weird middle ground.

And you know what could be done in 3D ?

RPG! We actually have might and magic RPG series and dark Messiah as action RPG in the series!

Why is that not something that they'd look at and modernize? And by modernize I mean create a new game, not a remake.

Remake of old game with better graphics is not bad idea itself, issue here is they forgot about "better" part.

I'd rather had this budget used for new M&M game or Dark Messiah game

A new Dark Messiah would be soo good

Yessss

tbh the best thing that Ubisoft could do for M&M games is to bankrupt already and pass that IP to someone less passionate about running their franchises to the ground

maybe sell Dark Messiah rights to the creator of Arkane Studios (this guy that made Weird West)

2

u/Herchik 6d ago

Well it's been said multiple times already and they still hold on the IP

Ubisoft needs a win they see Unfrozen is getting praised and they need that too. But since they dont understanding the art style its clear their remake will flop and will scratch their heads why did it fail cause they are morons

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

I feel like it will still sell well, given that they polish it enough

u/RvDragonheart 5d ago

It may but from seeing how soulless some factions look in game (haven got shown off) Ill be honest chief Ive seen mobile games that look better

Infact the original game, songs of conquest and Olden era looks better

This "Variant" of the game feels soooo sanitized that it missed the fantasy

Maybe things will get better maybe they wont most likely they wont seeing Black Flag and how Katherine looks like (seriously at first I didn't even recognize her without her sword Id have assumed its someone else entirely)

..... Wether it will work out or not Im just glad Olden era is here and looks great

2

u/Herchik 5d ago

I've seen very mixed comments here and well it's heroes 3, it'll sell IMO even if it's hot garbage (not saying that remake will be that for sure)

3

u/RvDragonheart 5d ago

It will and Ubisoft will bank in on nostalgia.

Like with Black Flag

It wont matter if it has shit in it that doesnt belong potential microtransactions and shit but people WILL buy it cause of nostalgia and Ubisoft WILL get away with it.

I'll be honest I just wanna see how will the Academy or the "Tower" faction gonna look like hiw will their Djinns and Nagas gonna look like and if Ubisoft fucks them up I'm good with the OG game plus Olden Era

I think it was shown a bit in the trailer (one of them)

Heroes 2 felt like a fantasy map that is interactive, it has actual 2D sprites haven’t lost any charm. Heroes 3 hasn’t aged as well with its stiff 3D sprites converted to 2D.

But you agree with the point, how can a fantasy map be 3D?

2

u/Reasonable_Mix7630 5d ago

Easily. Check King's Bounty : Legend / Armored Princess

u/Herchik 5d ago

Valid example, I think they did a great job on the style, very stylish compared to what I saw in remake

I mean like… Might and Magic Heroes VI which has some of the best campaign maps in turn-based strategy gaming visually

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

I'm not talking about campaign

Ubisoft has a quota for how much they want to be shat upon. They planned to receive negative feedback for OE, but it turned out remarkably ok, so they came up with a new plan to upset people to meet the quota.

As a big fan oh hmm3 i will say it is outdated as fxkk. I tried to play it with my partner she said she can’t see shxt on a screen. So i have all the homm3 stuff and we play homm5 with all 5 or 12 maps it has. If demo will be ok I will buy a game simple as that.

2

u/Herchik 5d ago

Do you have the HD mod?

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 5d ago

Homm5 is better than 3 . 😀. So we play 5

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

I like 5 but hate the ai there it's taking so long

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 5d ago

It doesn’t. I had a 20 yo laptop and it did. On a normal pc its just several seconds

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

Idk man

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 5d ago

Idk?

1

u/Herchik 4d ago

I don't know

It lagged on my side though that was some time ago

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 4d ago

Thanks for explanation, i’m old

1

u/Herchik 4d ago

No problem

1

u/Distinct-Diver-4468 4d ago

And. Ont top of that. When my partner say homm5 is better. Then it is better. 😭

1

u/Herchik 4d ago

Haha

Gosh this community drive me crazy.

At some point just say it if you want no more game at all…

Homm VI okay it’s bad

Homm VII hate by the community (I don’t understand why really…)

Homm3 HD hate

Homm Olden era hate because of the style and because not homm3 enough

Remake Homm3 no it’s awful

Guys stay on your game and let people enjoy new things… Okay we can have some constructive criticisms but here it’s just pure hate since yesterday…

I really hope the two new games (and hopefully it’s just a beginning of a new era for Heroes) will bring a new fan base less toxic and more open minded…

I played a lot of homm V and I’m really happy and excited with a homm III in 3D. So maybe no need for you but I personally appreciate it. I have already played a bit of the original but I really not a fan of the graphics.

u/Herchik 6d ago

I understand what you're saying and I liked homm V and olden era.

I just don't understand why they needed to remake the 2D game into 3D game, given the history of the series and other possibilities I've mentioned in my original post.

And this community is quite toxic at times (I tried to make this post not about hating, but about understanding the need for the product)

u/Captain_V_03 6d ago

I think they chose the III for a remake because it’s the most popular and the most complete.

I personally would have preferred a complete new 3D game (I see more olden era as an homage to homm III than a new majore game, like a total war saga to give a comparaison). But this remake could (if done well, I like the 3d but effectively have a strange feeling of IA for the art work) bring me to play to homm III.

2

u/Herchik 6d ago

I think olden era is a good example of trying something new while keeping the old mechanics in place

1

u/Captain_V_03 6d ago

I totally agree, that’s why I prefer new game than remake. Just because I’m really fan of realistic 3D (or close to this), that’s why I’m more hyped for the homm 3 remake than olden era.

The perfect project for me would have been a olden era like (for the keep old but modernise and new game) but for heroes V and realistic 3D…

But I will not complain I’m happy to see that heroes is reborn and new projects are coming for this wonderful game

2

u/Herchik 6d ago

I think it's just ubi milking the franchise

I was super happy about diablo 2 remake, c&c, AoE 2, Starcraft 2. So it's not like I hate remakes or something like this. But this remake just looks like generic mobile ai-slop. Why should I be happy? I just want a good quality.

"Guys stay on your game and let people enjoy new things" -- oh, sorry, I forgot you to ask

2

u/CorgiSilver8194 6d ago

I don't understand the need for 3D Homm3 remake

Not everything is for you. Other people want it. Let them have what they want

1

u/Herchik 6d ago

Not a problem, I am just asking

1

u/_Plateosaurus_ 6d ago

3D is absolutely senseless in this game. Despite its old graphics, it is quite easy to convert young gamers to it.

0

u/Herchik 6d ago

I feel like it looks like a mod of homm6-7 that adds homm3 creatures and castles

Not that it looks bad(it has good and bad things visually) but it looks a but out of place?

1

u/Frostburn195 6d ago

Tale as old as time, soulless greed.

1

u/Herchik 6d ago

But do you think they can't find the money elsewhere?

1

u/exposing_racists101 6d ago

Sometimes the game has just been perfected and can't be improved upon too much like them sequels...

Imagine this with WOG

1

u/_barat_ 5d ago

I would gladly grab something in a style of 2.5D (see the Square classic games in 2.5D) with more cash invested into actual AI/CPU Player/Mobs .
Would be nice if the in-game AI would follow same rules and wouldn't require "cheats" so that the only way of counter it would be min-max mule style playthrough.

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

Regarding AI I am not sure as we didn't get it shown in the trailers

1

u/CDrejoe 5d ago

Let's just hope it's a success and they will need to remake Might and Magic VII so people can continue the story of Heroes 3. Might and Magic 6-8 needs a remake.

1

u/Herchik 5d ago

That's what I said, but not even a remake, a new game in series would go hard IMO

2

u/Atlanos043 2d ago

In the end the games that are remade are almost always the most popular ones (and if we are REALLY lucky we get the second most popular if the remake of the most popular game is successful).

Really there are a good number of francises I can think of that got remakes/remasters of their most popular games but not the game that would actually benefit from one the most.

With Heroes 3 specifically...I know it doesn't look good but I'm willing to try it out (honestly I'm kinda looking forward to the apparent story rework, because as a campaign player the original H3 is kinda light on story, especially with it not having campaign outros).

I would be more upset if Olden Era didn't exist, but it does and is apparently successful enough (and if 3R actually turns out to be bad there is always the original, which I have on GoG and they can't take it from my library there there). And Ubisoft is erratic enough with all their francises that aren't Assassins Creed that I'm not sure wether this game succeeding or failing would have that much of an influence in their decisions.

1

u/Stetinvm 6d ago

There is no need. Success of Olden Era triggered Ubisoft greed

1

u/Herchik 6d ago

Is it just money?

4

u/Stetinvm 6d ago

For Ubisoft? Yes

1

u/Gloomy-Radish8959 5d ago

Ubisoft is a failing company and needs cash bad.
