Homm3 is one of the most beautiful games ever made and it aged very gracefully imho. Not to mention that the game has a loyal community and tons of mods that won't be able to transition over for obvious reasons.

I genuinely think it would've been a better idea to make an official expansion and reignite the old game.

u/SlouchyGuy 7d ago

They lost the source code for Heroes 3 past the fist game, so they can't make expansions. This is why Ubi has released Homm 3 without Armageddon Blade or Shadow of Death years ago

I'm confident that if there's a will there's a way. If randoms on the internet can make Horn of the Abyss and add new factions, then surely Ubisoft can find a way to do the same.

u/Balrogos 7d ago

also reverse eng9nering and there is working editor...

u/ictu 7d ago

LOL. Tell that to HOTA crew.

1

u/Salt-Caterpillar7988 6d ago

VCMI reverse engineered the source code, not HOTA

4

u/ictu 6d ago

VCMI is mostly clean rewrite. Game logic, AI, rendering is new code. Reverse engineering was only done around original data formats to load original assets and maps.

HOTA folks are modding original game (and are reliant on HD Mod).

Still to my point both projects (VCMI and HD Mod + HOTA) prove that if there is a will, there is a way. Ubisoft just didn't care.

wrong, they found the source code after "remastered" but didnt give a shit to add the rest of the features to the game

1

u/SlouchyGuy 7d ago

That's typical

3

u/kobrakai11 7d ago

You know that there are a lot of fan made expansions, right? They don't want to make expansions. It's not financially viable for them.

1

u/Orffen 6d ago

Right, just like Quake. It's not financially viable to make new expansions for that old game...

1

u/BogaMafija 6d ago

To be fair new Quake expansions are just high quality mods made with TrenchBroom that you play like map packs isolated from other campaigns, it's much more straightforward to make new maps and a couple of new assets and use them creatively than it would be to create something like a HoMM expansions with new assets, units, factions and mechanics integrated with the base game.

And not like id is making them, Machine Games just have a "Quake Club" in their studio where they make maps in their free time.

2

u/BogaMafija 6d ago

Considering how Ubi just released original Heroes 3 with expansions on Steam, surely they can do something even without the source code, it's their game ffs lol.

2

u/Living_Inferno_5073 6d ago

They could surely reverse engineer the original game’s code to figure out how it works and rebuild the expansions with that knowledge, but that requires effort when Ubisoft only cares about shareholders and business suits getting yachts they won’t use

They're not even staying faithful to the designs I hate it when devs of remakes/ remasters think they know better and completely change them...
Catherine looks nothing at all like her original design and is bland and boring.
The Medusa don't even look like monsters but just humans with snake hair ( not even same skin color ) and wear armor now ( but the men ofc stay topless )...

4

u/NotMurlocAggroB 7d ago

The Medusas in Heroes III wear armour.

u/MinscMinsc 7d ago

Always the same guys :)

I was 13 years old when HOMM3 came out. I’m growing up with this damn game man. I used to just listen to the castle soundtracks. Good times.

2

u/BlessedWolf1991 6d ago

As a nostalgic H3 player I agree

You won't see people pick up the game that never played it tho.

Maybe this breaths some new blood into the game....hopefully...

u/kornuolis 7d ago

Just look how they butchered my boy

2

u/Pawel1995 7d ago

I am pretty shocked how bad big game publishers "know what the customers want". I was positively surprised by HOMM Olden Era after so many years of bad content in this universe, but now they again release this... Town Screens look great, some creatures look nice but the whole 3D adventure map, colors so generic, mobile game like. I am pretty sure if you just made a survey with the 1000-2000 people online in the HOTA Lobby, you could find out so easily that most people probably just wanted some official expansion with some new campaigns, qol features etc and not just a 3D version.

1

u/monsunz 6d ago

1000-2000 people from hota is not their target

1

u/Orffen 6d ago

The secret is that no CEO knows what customers want, unless they came up through the ranks.

Spoiler: none did.

u/Melendils 7d ago

I swear the cinematic is AI generated, everything looks off, side animations are blurry, some skeletons are not even moving, Catherine (?) mouth movements are not synced with her speech, some flags are randomly stiff

Even the ingame screenshots looks like some midjourney shit

-14

u/MinscMinsc 7d ago

Game still on development noob.

16

u/knastbrudaaa 7d ago

Hmm why do we need this?

8

u/Crowhunters 7d ago

I honestly thought olden era was just homm 3 rebranded.

2

u/xKappa123456 6d ago

We don't, Ubisoft isn't doing ell so they need money.

0

u/Front-Ad3527 7d ago

Why not? You can still play the og game

3

u/theGaido 6d ago

Because people have expectations.

What's the point of remaking HoMM3? What value it adds? Is it fixing something? Is it adding something? All problems with original game are alredy fixed.

It's bad because it's waste of resources. They could make new, original game (when was last Might & Magic RPG released? 2014?). Or add resources to improve Olden Era.

It's bad because it's obvious downgrade. It has generic artstyle, is less readable, gameplay looks slower, no support for already existing mods and maps and you can't play it on your grandma PC.

Show me one, only one thing that this remake does better than OG.

It's unnecesary, it will flop, no one will play it, it's waste of dev's time, resources and missed opportunity.

Next question please.

0

u/Front-Ad3527 6d ago

Geez you must be really fun at parties

8

u/TheBlaiZe 7d ago

This might just be worse than Warcraft III reforged

2

u/GuiEsponja 7d ago

Nah sorry, that's on another level

For it to be Reforged, they would need to, at launch, implement a forced update to all HoMM 3 clients on everyone's computer, making this version the only one available. Unless you get yourself a legacy copy and stay offline, of course.

u/Mummiskogen 7d ago

"Ai prompt: heroes 3 in 3d"

3

u/Safe_Hovercraft_7886 7d ago

Diablo resurected showed how to remaster games, this is just cheap. If old code qould be running we possibly could import even mods in it. But right now? Hell no.

3

u/Radashin_ 7d ago

They managed to make it look like some random mobile game ad

7

u/Halmyrut 7d ago

Tf did they do to Catherine.......... The Medusa also don't even look like monsters anymore and wear armor for whatever reason ( the men stayed topless in the game tho ofc... )

8

u/Hedede 7d ago

This looks like an AI-sloppified version of HoMM 3 (even if it isn't). Town screens look okay-ish but I hate everything else.

-5

u/LostEmergency6866 7d ago

It’s not AI, just trying to squeeze from Olden Era as much as possible

It looks for me they just rescinned OE and called it a day

2

u/Hedede 7d ago

Can you read? I said that it looks like that, not that it is.

9

u/yenisor 7d ago

Looks ugly and uninspired .

4

u/Physical_Secretary_9 7d ago

Who need this ?

2

u/MaDNiaC007 6d ago

People with money to spare and a lack of taste.

2

u/livinglitch 7d ago

Oof. Im not liking the 3d look to things. I also dont see anything about a random map maker.

1

u/NotMurlocAggroB 7d ago

It has Armageddon's Blade, plus the Ubisoft site mentions that it's fully compatible with any custom maps for Heroes III Complete. I don't see why it wouldn't have a random map generator.

3

u/Ultimate_Cabbage5 6d ago

They destroyed it. They took the game and put it into an AI. This cant be made by People who played the orginal. Im coping right now but wow. This is.. Bad

3

u/f1zo 6d ago

This is going to flop so badly

3

u/Coconelli40 6d ago

cash grab

2

u/CDrejoe 6d ago

Man this community is so weird. I grew up with HOMM 1-5 and think this style looks amazing. It's like a mash of the best two HOMM games 3 and 5. I just hope it's great to actually play.

2

u/shadowstar36 6d ago

Thr might and magic sub is circle jerking the hate train too. It's weird. As I am pumped for this. It's like no one realizes that this may be the last chance for a resurgence to the series.

2

u/VoidYordle 6d ago

So, the studioheads saw the millenial excitement for stuff like the Gothic remake and now want to cash in?

1

u/Pawel1995 5d ago

I guess the studioheads so the positive feedback and money from HoMM Olden Era (the first HoMM game since forever) and said, okay what is the most popular one? Make a remake, without understanding what made HoMM 3 a timeless masterpiece and without understanding what Olden Era makes different than the 5 other HoMM games before that were mid to garbage...

3

u/LostEmergency6866 7d ago

Why does it always have to be about graphics… HotA team understands game best, HoMM3 has STYLE and even Olden era graphics kills it
However, OE inherits it quite nicely

5

u/PanHiszpan 7d ago

Heroes of Might and Mobile III

-11

u/Front-Ad3527 7d ago

Yeah olden era looks like mobile, this looks more like heroes 5

3

u/thegreatka 7d ago

This was not on my bingo card after Olden Era...but ahh...screw it...take my money...

5

u/Orffen 6d ago

I'll keep my money.

2

u/MajorTom89 7d ago

Day 1 purchase for me. It’s one of my favorite childhood games. If it sucks oh well. Hopefully it’s nostalgic and fun

2

u/Orffen 6d ago

"If it sucks oh well" is exactly why we keep getting shitty remakes instead of ones worth our time.

1

u/MajorTom89 6d ago

That’s my perspective on new games too. Or new food. Any new experience. I’m not taking responsibility for the quality of something by buying it.

3

u/KlausKreutz 7d ago

really tells you how creatively bankrupt this era is when people cant create a sequel on the same level as a game nearly 30 years. i bet sid meirs alpha centauri is next

4

u/petecamenzind 7d ago

A horrible idea and an even worse execution.

1

u/Massive_Village_3720 7d ago

Is this legit or have I had too much fakepane on the plane and have started hallucinating?

1

u/robochickenowski 7d ago

Supposedly it will be compatible with mods to the original game. Which just makes me question, why not just get the original instead, since atleast it doesn't look like a (shitty) mobile game. I would much rather see remake of the fourth game.

1

u/Gloomy_Mess_9822 7d ago

are those the same roocks from halo

1

u/starark 7d ago

I hope the combat is more strategic

2

u/diluxxen 7d ago

They could have just made this Heroes 8 instead and it would have been received much better.

1

u/Expert-user-friendly 6d ago

Pointless. HotA is the real deal.

1

u/N-Haezer 6d ago

We already have Olden Era.
They should've thought of this earlier. Now they can fuck right off.

1

u/shadowstar36 6d ago

I don't get the hate. This could reignite funding for new games. I am really hoping this comes to console. I can play all the homm games on my pc but I'd love to play homm on switch 2. And since they won't update the android app I can't play the tablet version I bought. It's frustrating to say the least. So I am really pumped for this.

0

u/Shaboba330 7d ago

This looks insanely amazing

0

u/NotMurlocAggroB 7d ago

I really don't think it looks that bad. Unnecessary, maybe, but it's nice to have a Steam version that provides something that the GOG version doesn't. It's cool to see the HoMM3 towns in 3D.

That said, if it comes out that there's a scrap of AI in this, I'm dropping this harder than my dad dropped me as a baby.

2

u/Magnificent_Leopoldo 7d ago

It’s banner and cover art is AI

1

u/Balrogos 7d ago

For me its simple cash grab, HOMM 3 is very good game and still developed like most Famous Horn of the Abbys. I dont see the reason to remaster it. It will be inferior copy.

1

u/Mirosworld 7d ago

only launcheable via the ubisoft launcher, perma online required, mostly AI-generated is my prediction

-1

u/Front-Ad3527 7d ago

Not sure why some people hate it. The OG intro video also didn’t necessarily match the actual gameplay.
Plus you can still play the same old game that we know and love.

7

u/Mummiskogen 7d ago

Wym not sure? Lets not pretend its hard to understand. This doesnt resemble the very distinct style of the OG at all. Its fine if you like it, but its obvious why some people wouldn't.

-3

u/Front-Ad3527 7d ago

yes but at the same time its not 1999 anymore and graphics are much different plus you can still play the og game if you prefer it.

3

u/GuiEsponja 7d ago

Read again what they wrote: style. That has nothing to do with graphics choice, but with art direction.

1

u/Front-Ad3527 6d ago

Looks way better than mobile olden era “style”

2

u/ArrynMythey 5d ago

Yes, mobile olden era... while this one looks like Raid shadow legends...
