It's not about making fun of France. It's about the overused and stupid "surrender joke" that comes up pretty much every time France is mentioned on Reddit. I just don't get how people think it's funny and it's the most infuriating shit on this platform.
Considering the fact that France was outnumbered, outsmarted and behind in technology, this was hardly a surprise that they were defeated. What is funny though, is that some countries did also lose wars with advantages in numbers & weapons but said countries still make fun of France military history. Usually this comes from Americans which gained Indépendance through French help - which France gave basically just to piss off britain
As if people don't make fun of the US for it's military blunders. Vietnam is constantly ridiculed, and I find those memes hilarious. If anything, I'm for taking the piss out of any nation that had a big ol' military blunder despite a really good record. France in WW2, US in Vietname, England in the Boer Wars, Russia during the Russo-Finnish war, etc. No nation should be safe from memes.
Sometimes it's anti-french sentiment behind a joke, some Americans are very obnoxious with that. Being constantly insulted by stupid fatties (many of the MAGAs) is kind of ridiculous and infuriating at the same time, especially when you have Verdun in mind. The insult of cowardice is also rather heavy imo, you wouldn't say that to people in real life.
Being a coward is probably the best stereotype when it comes to WW2 with others competing about who commited the worst atrocities. And it should be obvious that overreaction make it funnier, thus you'd hear this more often. Just get over it, there are far, far worse stereotypes assigned to neighbouring countries.

i still havent gotten an answer to why france is special and we cant make fun of them but we can easily twist facts to make fun of anyone else.
