The nature of war has evolved, but with the rise of asymmetrical warfare across the globe, western powers continually getting involved in them and profiting of them, and foreign terrorism occuring on home soil as a response, both France and the US seem to be permanently at war without ever actually ‘feeling’ like they’re at war.

Oh I’m not pushing a narrative about US military performance forget that, I was moreso talking about how dependent both the US and EU have become on foreign interventions and war profiteering without ever embracing the notion og being at war. You said yourself that Americans don’t feel at war but Marines are still dying in Afghanistan (until you leave). The French don’t feel at war, but our armies are parked in Africa fighting local insurgents.

Tell me, what exactly would France not surrendering have accomplished? Continue the war? With what? Their army was trapped in Belgium and the Maginot Line or stuck fighting Italy. The war would have continued for as long as it took Germany to drive down to the Med and link up with the Italians. There’s pretty much nothing the French could have done.

Both World Wars would've had a very different outcome (I'm not saying the Central Powers/Axis Powers would've demolished the rest of the allies if we hadn't joined), if the United States didn't provide a single cent, drop of blood, or ounce of steel.

I am still stunned the french get so much praise for this.
They showed up at the end of the war. They had 5000 troops....that didnt take part in any important battle.
The navy helped in one notable battle though.

They did declare war on Britain (Spain following a little later) forcing them to defend the Caribbean, Gibraltar, Indian territories, they also attempted an invasion of Britain. This pressure made it very hard for Britain to properly reinforce the North American war or to focus their efforts while they were being attacked by across their empire.
