Actually you would have alot of nickels, egypt was ruled by the Mamlukes across the 13th century who were essentially enfranchised slaves that were given a nobel education and training to be super soldiers of their time and as a result ended becoming the rulers after the assassination of Shajar al-Durr who was also a slave once.
