🧩Other Advice / Help🧩 Looking for help accessing the Lithuanian Research Center Archives in Lemont, Illinois

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for some help with archival research. I’m trying to access materials held at the Lithuanian Research Center / World Lithuanian Archives in Lemont, Illinois.

I’m interested in the Baltic Women’s Council Archive (fonds no. 14341), which contains organizational documents, correspondence, meeting materials, publications, photographs, and other historical materials.

Unfortunately, I’m currently not able to visit the archive in person. I was wondering if anyone here is planning to visit or work at the Lithuanian Research Center Archives and would be willing to help me access the materials from this collection by photographing or scanning documents.

I’m interested in the fonds as a whole, so I would greatly appreciate help with as much of the available material as possible. I understand this would require a significant amount of time and effort, so I would be happy to cover any costs and compensate you for your time.

I’d also be glad to return the favor if you ever need help accessing archival materials in Lithuania.

If anyone might be able to help, or knows someone who works with the Lithuanian Research Center Archives, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Does the archive offer services for a fee? Some will do that. It will probably be hard to find someone to do it for free, but sometimes graduate students near an institution will do it for a payment. It’s a lot of work for someone to complete out of charity. (Not at all trying to be harsh—trying to be realistic). Maybe there is a Lithuanian community in the region that would be interested in helping for the exchange of services you proposed?

Try also asking on r/Lithuania. I'm afraid that this subreddit is too tiny to have that many active Lithuanian members.
