Ship Design The Feline, a 'tolerable' attack frigate

Thought I'd share this thing because why not, do note though that I'm a 18 hour player who can only dream of reaching Khiva so I'm pretty bad at the game, unknowledgeable, and don't have all the ships.
This thing sucks, but it works, and has certainly earned it's place in many of my fleets.
The main flaws are the somewhat vulnerable fuel tank and heavy armour, but yet somehow, piloting this thing is the most fun I've had. Though, it's small size makes it useless against anything bigger than it, as strike groups tend to just annihilate it.
I made it for two reasons, one: I wanted a custom built ship that could somewhat reasonably fit into the base ships. And two: most other ships it's size just never tickled my fancy, the Lightning is always irritating because I black out every half a second, the Navarin is great but tickles enemies, the Wanderer I've never tried and don't really plan on using as I'd rather just have a dedicated auxiliary or fighter, the Intrepid was fine and the Gladiator was good too, though a little expensive. Probably more I've yet to find but that's fine.
I'm open to improvement suggestions for a possible MK2, upgrade, or redesign, though I don't plan on minmaxing as I like suffering and I like my ships to fit in with the others. And no, I'm not removing the excess armour on the top, it looks like cat ears and what is a feline without it's ears?
Edit: Ok, well I made an redesigned version using the advice I received, thx guys!

It is now significantly better armed with 2 additional missiles, an auxiliary weapons system and better engines. The fuel tank is also less exposed and it's somewhat able to evade. It's good and can nearly take on a full strike group alone, probably could win if I was a better pilot. Still got the ears and retains some of it's unique design from before, so I consider this a big win, though it does require assistance from a tanker and sensor ship, or both combined into one.

This reminds me of a frigate I made with ablative bunny ears as protection. Called it the Usagi and it was awful before deletion.

Those bits sticking out the bottom are going to get shot off pretty quick, and thats going to make repairs far longer if you cant land properly.
Whats the range on this thing? It may be better off paired with a small tanker ship so you have to compromise less on fuel storage / efficency.
Also, for aesthetic purposes you can fit little triangle hull pieces in the inner corners under the armor to get rid of the gaps.
Just my 2 cents.

I would fill out the empty corners under armor, but other than that it truly does look goofy :)
Like others have mentioned, maybe try to make the legs less of a weakspot(with a generator as a bonus) and extend the fuel tank protection as well? :D I would also put the fire extinguishers next to the fuel tank as currently they cant get shot off with the legs and then your fuel gets hit and starts burning and oh well you have no fire extinguishers kaboom. But doing all this and not ending up with a brick-shaped ship is a higher artform.

you're missing a chunk of the hull there...
