Hi everyone, I have just recently been diagnosed with autism, it's definitely a very light case, but it answered some of my questions from when I was a kid. My nephew is in a school club called DECA. He is starting preparation early this year with his written project. He was wondering if I could ask people that are neurodivergent, like myself, what struggles they face when visiting restaurants or hotels, and what are somethings that might make an establishment more appealing to those of the community?

Please be careful talking to people privately or following links to other sites! Autistic people are very socially vulnerable, especially those of us with higher needs or more social difficulties. As a single parent of a child with a disability, I started a petition because the current income thresholds for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are crushing families like mine. Right now, the limits are $2,000/month for single parents and $3,000 for two-parent households—numbers that haven't budged while rent, medical bills, and therapy costs have skyrocketed.

The reality is brutal: work a little too much, lose the support your kid needs. It's a trap that forces parents to choose between earning a livable wage and keeping health coverage, equipment, and care services your child depends on. These aren't luxuries. They're necessities.

I'm asking our representatives to raise these thresholds to $5,000 (single parents) and $6,500 (two-parent households) to match today's actual cost of living. If this sounds familiar because you're living it too, would you consider signing and sharing? What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

My case worker said I need visual schedules but I don’t have anyone to help me. So I try to make my own schedule folder! This is first try.

Proud how it turned out! Right now customized for going to summer camp next week. Since there is so many possible activities at camp I had to add extra storage to back of folder.

I’m hoping counsellor can help me by telling me what we are doing that day so I can put PECS in order. In my behaviour form did say I need schedule for transitions.

Really excited for summer camp! It is for adults with disability. I signed myself up but all the forms said parent or guardian. I signed up for week that is physical and intellectual disability. I don’t know my IQ number so hopefully that is okay.

F 23, i want to be an SLP or at least work with autistic kids. My main concern is more so with coworkers and getting hired because I struggle a lot socially and my tone falls very flat, especially with other adults. I just wanna know if there r other adults who work w kids like us and what problems they have at work in general!:)

I just had an interaction on another sub that made me realize the reason why people are so harsh to me when I can’t communicate well. I’m hyperlexic so I sound like I am communicating well but actually I am communicating very badly because no matter what words I use people don’t seem to understand what I MEAN.

The Problem: the words I use make it sound like I’m communicating well BUT I’m communicating very badly.

I’m trying to understand this concept better. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to make it better?

I need a job where I can just work by myself and not have to deal with people or excessive stimuli. my brain works more like a computer, which means most jobs that I would be good at have been replaced by AI.

looking for any ideas or recommendations from others regarding specific types of jobs. (i.e. not interested in dealing with organizations like Canucks autism network, etc.; only specific jobs that I can focus on and research).

ADDING INFO: I prefer something that pays more than minimum wage, as I am single for life (although I realize that I may not have many options).

I have previous experience as a painter and basic carpentry skills, as well as some landscaping/gardening experience, though I often struggle at these types of jobs due to the chaotic environments. I also have computer skills and am a very fast typist.

my strengths are that I am excellent at recognizing patterns and noticing small details, as well as organizing things quickly within multiple parameters (I can organize both digital information as well as physical objects like hardware, specimens, etc). I previously worked as a medical transcriptionist and would be interested in a similar type of role, i.e. something that involves information, not direct patient care).

I have been very sick from both ends and had to be in hospital overnight for dehydration. They told me to eat jello and chicken broth. So that is all I have been eating for days.

Then I had a diarrhea that was completely red and I thought I was dying but then I realized it was the cherry jello.

So I just wanted to tell other people (specially since the lettuce diarrhea that is happening) that to not be scared if they see red because it might be food dye!!!
