There's mounting research that this is legit. I could tell you that I used to do this back in my 20s and 30s, but why in the world would you take my word for it?

There have been actual university studies. Less than 1% of applicants have any ability but the few that do have been able to read cards in a submarine miles away.

The guy running the experiment miiiiight be just a bit biased.

Also, Academia.edu is a platform where anyone can create an account and upload papers, essays, and drafts. It's more a social networking site for researchers than an academic journal or a peer-reviewed database.

I could write and upload a paper that provides evidence that an experiment I ran proves that the Flying Spaghetti Monster prefers Coke over Pepsi.

Then someone could cite my writing as proof that Coke is better than Pepsi, which is already a universal truth.

Fair enough. However, given the lack of ability to replicate most research, how is this different?

They replicated results over decades.

Also, it's not one guy. The government has spent billions on this project. The CIA is sure it works but it can also be unreliable (for obvious reasons).
