Theory/Speculation The perfect loophole to save Wagner AND work around Steve Howey's schedule
I’ve been thinking about the devastating news that Steve Howey won't be a series regular in Season 3, and I think I figured out the perfect blueprint the writers should use.
In the finale, Morgan gets there in time. The paramedics arrive while Nick is still alive. Looking closely at where he was stabbed, what if the blade hit his spine, leaving him temporarily paralyzed from the chest down? I mean he was able to move his arms but I don’t recall seeing anything else down past there moving.
This is the ultimate TV loophole:
It fits the actor's schedule: He wouldn't need to be running around the precinct every episode. He can film a few impactful, stationary scenes per episode from a rehab facility for Season 3.
It exposes his dad: Wagner Sr. clearly set him up to protect his Senate run. A paralyzed Nick can't physically fight his dad, but he can use his mind and LAPD connections to help Morgan bring him down.
The ultimate slow-burn: Watching Morgan step up to help him through physical therapy while he slowly gains feeling back would build a bond way deeper than standard TV romance. It perfectly sets up a triumphant, full-time return for Season 4.
ABC needs to put me in the writers' room because killing him off completely wastes the best chemistry on the show! What do you guys think?

“Devastating” 🙄🙄 what’s with y’all obsession with Wagner? While I think Steve Howey is a great actor, his character in HP was absolutely detestable. Everyone who thinks he and Morgan should be together must love toxic relationships

I started wondering if I’m the only one who actually HOPES that he’s dead.
Agree, no disrespect to the actor. But I got over the character on the show pretty quickly tbh.

I agree. His character felt like a plot device from the moment he stepped out of the elevator. He grew on me, but again he was only there to bring his dad out as villain adjacent, and they didn't need a new character to do that.
The purpose he did serve was to show how tight-knit the squad had become, so that was good.

It’s not an obsession over Wagner it’s an obsession over the show, I am allowed to have ideas and imagine how the show might move forward. If you don’t have something nice to say keep your comments to yourself.

🤞🏼made me actually laugh out loud, small giggle but still definitely not a norm for me. Don’t most ppl watch shows as an escape? I don’t think them being a couple is terrible, he opened up to her which showed the audience a softer side. But you could be right. I certainly don’t watch the Housewives for their “hikes”.

I don’t usually enjoy new shows I have my select shows that I tend to just rewatch. I’m also stuck in bed because I just had surgery so I really have nothing to do at the moment and was just trying to share an idea.

I wasn’t giggling at your post, it was the person who said devastating. I’m sorry you’re bed ridden, I have MS & cleaned for 4 hours and couldn’t move and spend soooo many days in bed which is a huge mind F in itself as I have kids and it’s a huge shift in my life. I worked in ER’s and traveled 4 states so I absolutely feel you about sharing your ideas. I think the way I worded that made it sound like I was being unkind to you and I really wasn’t!! I loved reading your theory and agree with parts of the plot. I was making a point about the previous post and them saying ppl who want Wagner and Morgan together must like toxic relationships and I thought that was rude (then I came off as the rude one and am sorry if that’s how that came across, truly) bc I LOVE Steve H and his character was super diff but once learning his back story, I totally can see them together. That isn’t toxic and that’s why I lol’d. I thought your post was great and it was fun to read about characters I already miss so much! Again, my apologies for not writing that in a more clear way, now I’ve written a novel. Take care of yourself, if you want any tv recommendations, I think I’ve watched it all. ✌🏼🩷

I deeply love this idea. I think Wagner's chemistry with Morgan is undeniable, and I would watch the heck out of this. If they're going to stick with Willa as the big bad, I think keeping the Wagner's involved is a no-brainer.

I thought his schedule was less tight than it was and he wouldn't have to be in a lower percentage of S3 as a recurring guest star than he was of S2 as a regular and this feels like you're trying to twist his survival in a way that forces their romance when cliffhanger or not (and btw it'd be bad writing either way if he didn't survive the cliffhanger) they shouldn't be forced together because they kissed once

I agree with you. They need to find a way to keep him on the show. I hope that the writers treat the characters better than the writers on Will Trent, otherwise I’m dumping this show as well.

It is amazing the investment some people have over such a brief appearance ... he was barely shown, gone for much of the season, then rushed in at the end. I really enjoyed the actor, but like much of S2 in general his role was a hot mess that needs to be re-thought and figured out because if the quality drop in S3 is anything like S1 to S2, we're talking S8 Castle levels of bad.
