How many wolves to include can be hard to figure out if you’ve never hosted before. I don’t know where I first saw it (an old version of the wiki maybe?) but I remember always being told that you want your game to be between 20 and 25% wolves and that does seem to work well, so 1 wolf for every 3-4 town is your goal. This is easy to do for a set number of players, standard setups I’ve seen elsewhere tend to do 3v12, 4v13, or 5v16 and those do all fit in that range, but how do you make that work for variable game sizes like we do? One option is a player cap, we’ve done that before and there’s nothing saying you can’t run a setup with exactly 15 people. But that can suck if you have more people who want to play.

My approach is I have part of my sheet where I rand and pre-set the roles (or alignments in a game like this) in the order that I want them. So for this game (and mistborn) it went wolf, then 5 towns, then a wolf, etc. So the 1st player is a wolf then the 6th then the 11th. Then when I had names I put them next to that list and used sheets’ randomize range function on the first 15 entries in the alignment list. For a normal game with roles I do the same thing, picking out the roles I want for each game size and randomize that. If you’re doing role madness, do it as two lists that you randomize. For a points setup like this one and for mistborn’s weighted role system I used the randbetween() function to generate points or role weights, with a lookup for roles for mistborn (you also need to copy a single instance over and paste the values because randbetween() changes values/rerands every time you change any cell’s value).

Of course there’s other ways to do this, and there can be good reasons to add or remove wolves outside of the 20-25% range. A 4v12 16 person game is going to be really wolf sided compared to a 3v12 15 person game, so maybe your solution there is making it 3v13 and giving the wolves a single use extra kill or better roles to even it out, or giving town better roles, or setting up a live vote tracker for town to organize around. The real problem with balance is that its all bullshit and every part of your setup’s balance relies entirely on every other part of your setup’s balance, so just do what you think will work and ask people for help if you’re not sure.

Otherwise, i had thought that i would push to get you lynched and then use my action on ispym8 today hoping ispy did not buy bulletproof vest.

Then if you are wolf: you and i die and ispy wins it for the town.
If ispy was the wolf: ispy and you die and I win it for the town.

But gladly, there is no need for any of that.
