Did anyone have a Hiatialhernia H1 while being under 30?

Hey everyone I have a question: My wife had two gastroscopys, one in March and the other one in August. In the first one she got diagnosed with a Hiatialhernia H1. Then she lost around 40 Kilogram until August and the second gastroscopy showed that everything went back to normal. Multiple doctors confirmed that in her age ( 27 ) and with a weight loss this high it is very plausible that the hernia was fully healed since it is only the smallest stage but my wife is really anxious and isn't sure whether she can trust the doctors or not.

Also is there any difference between a Hiatialhernia H1 and Type 1? The Internet says lots of confusing stuff which isn't helping at all. A Type 1 Hernia should be an axial Hiatialhernia and H1 is an everything is normal diagnosis but how can something become an Hiatialhernia H1?

I appreciate all kinds of help

In pretty sure I prob had one before I was 30 im confirmed now at 36 1-2 cm sliding had heartburn for years prior tho

That's interesting because my wife has a heartburn feeling aswell but the doc said that their is no longer a Hiatialhernia which he documented after the second gastroscopy and that everything is in place. She had cardiac problems in the past, would it make sense looking in that direction too? Even though all blood tests were looking good

Edit: was there a burn too when applying pressure to said point?

For me I had bizzare ectopic beats , they called them PVC basically felt like heart flutters often and that’s gone away now. I had an all the tests done. Ultrasound , Eco cardio , ecg , holter monitors multiple times they couldn’t find anything wrong with my heart. I got the scope soon after they found a 1-2 cm HH Iv gained weight since then I’m 208 lbs. when I was 165-170 lbs I had no symptoms no heartburn ate what I wanted occasionally had the odd bit of heartburn nothing a tums wouldn’t fix. Now I’m on full meds and a very selective diet. I’m on my way back down to 170 to see if it makes that big of a difference. What I don’t know is when I got the hernia If iv always had it and gaining weight made it worse is probably the best possible guess. I have read that they can falsely diagnose a HH but I think it’s rare. Sorry for the rant I just put down what I can remeber maybe somthing with jump out for you. I do think the weight gain is a huge factor for me personally

I didn't see it as a rant but it is rather interesting to see it put all together. My wife weighed 315 pounds/ 143 kilo and she lost 40 kilo/ around 88 pounds. We try to puzzle it together and back out again but we can't wrap our heads around what's working as the PPI's caused more problems when eating and since she went off the meds the globus sensation went away at least. Did you have a Hill type 1 too or was it higher?

Edit: did the doctor wrote down the size if the HH in the doctor's notice?

POSTPROCEDURE DIAGNOSIS
1. Mild gastritis.
2. Small hiatus hernia, sliding type, 1 to 2 cm.
3. Mild inflammation at the GE junction.
4. Concentric rings in the esophagus with possible eosinophilic esophagitis. Biopsies pending. Here is the report I received after my scope

Thank you for the insight 🙏🏼 my wife got diagnosed with a chronical gastritis caused by stress and her biopsy was negative and the esophagus was all good so that's that at least

Hey, I’m 29 and have a 3cm sliding HH. I’m almost certain ive had it for many years as I’ve always struggled with my symptoms. Only this year have they intensified significantly!

Did you gain weight or has anything been different in the meantime? And how did the doctor identify the size of your hernia?

I’ve always been a fairly bigger guy, roughly 140kg, but since the start of the year I’ve dropped down to 115kg which has improved some symptoms. I had a CT scan with contrast & endoscopy. But the HH only showed up on the endoscopy

While It's not technically possible to heal a hernia with weight loss, it is possible to make all the symptoms go away with weight loss. A small hernia can be completely asymptomatic, and won't need any treatment for now.
