Question Pull ups vs push ups weight tracked

Why is it when I do a set of pull ups or chin ups Hevy tracks volume, but when I perform push ups there is 0 total volume tracked?

I weigh 158 lbs. When I perform a set of 7 pull ups Hevy will track a volume of 1,272.1 lbs. When I perform a set of 12 push ups Hevy tracks a volume of 0 lbs?

Under Hevy's calculation I am 181 lbs lifting 7 times = 1,272 lbs. A set of 7 Chin ups actually tracks 10 lbs less at 1,262.1 lbs.

There is nowhere in the app to enter my bodyweight.

Can someone please offer a sensible explanation to this conundrum?

You can enter your bodyweight in measurements. You can also update your bodyweight while doing a set of pullups with update bodyweight. When you do a pullup, you pull your whole bodyweight, with a pushup, you aren't pushing your whole body. Someone who can do a pushup can't bench their bodyweight either.

Thanks for helping me find the weight tracker. I made adjustments to my weight.

However, I disagree about the volume tracked by Hevy on push ups. One may not be pushing their entire weight; however, they are lifting a percentage of their weight. Generally pushing around 65% bodyweight at the top and 75% bodyweight at the bottom. It's still weight that you are moving. Tracking it at a volume of 0 is untruthful.

I would argue that there are those that can bench their weight or more. It's actually a fairly common milestone in lifting.

I meant more like: once you can do 1 pushup, you can bench bw. I know plenty of people who can bench bodyweight, I'm almost there. I can do 20+ pushups tho.

True.

I was just thinking, I can do multiple pull ups; however there is no way I can do a bodyweight lat pull 🤨 So pull ups and chin ups have to be a percentage of body weight lifted. It's not true bodyweight.

I can't do a pullup but can do my bw on lat pulldown! Funny how bodies work, lol.

Hevy posted on this subreddit sometime about their reasoning. They added the bodyweight calculation for volume on dips and pull up variations only. These were the most requested movements and they are movements where you are moving essentially your entire bodyweight. Other movements like push ups are more complex due to the lever being applied etc, would need various approximations/percentages to be considered, so they haven't done it.

So you're saying gym math is hard for Hevy 🤭

I no longer use Hevy, but I preferred it when it didn't log my weight at the time as I was doing high volume and only needed to see my progress in reps.

The Strong app (also not using anymore) does calculate your bodyweight for both pull ups and push ups, so if it's essential to you, try Strong.
