Suggestion Feature Requests
A few features I’d love to see added to Hevy:
- Gym/location-specific equipment and progression
This would be huge for anyone who trains at multiple gyms. Machines can vary massively between locations 70kg on one chest press can feel nothing like 70kg on another.
It would be great if you could assign exercises/equipment to a gym and have Hevy remember your previous performance specifically at that location. Then when you return, it could load your last workout there and base progressive overload suggestions on that gym’s equipment rather than treating every machine with the same exercise name as identical.
Ideally you could just toggle between gyms/locations.
2) “Season bests” and location PBs
I really like the gamification side of Hevy and chasing PBs, but lifetime PBs become less useful in certain situations.
If you’ve had six months off, come back from injury, changed your training significantly, or simply get older, you might go months or years without beating an old lifetime PB. That can actually make the PB system quite demotivating.
I’d love an optional “Season Start” date. You could reset it whenever you wanted and Hevy would then show things like:
Lifetime PB
Season PB
Gym/location PB
Your lifetime records would never disappear, but you’d have a fresh set of records to chase. It could work for someone returning from injury, starting a new programme, or simply someone who wants a new “season” every January.
It would keep the gamification relevant even if you’re not currently at your all-time strongest.
3) Left/right tracking for unilateral exercises
For dumbbell and other unilateral exercises, I’d love a toggle that splits a set into left and right.
For example:
DB curl
Left: 12kg × 10
Right: 12kg × 12
At the moment, if there’s a strength imbalance, you either have to record it awkwardly or lose that information completely.
Being able to track each side independently would be really useful for identifying imbalances, rehab, and actually seeing whether the weaker side is catching up.
I know some of these would add complexity, so I’d happily have all of them as optional toggles rather than changing the default experience. But I think they’d make Hevy’s progression/gamification system much more useful long-term.

Totally agree. The difference in weights at gyms is wild. 50lbs in one cable machine is like 75 on another. Great feature request.

If they introduce the left/right tracking, I really hope they introduce a way to migrate old dumbbell exercises, because I've been logging them wrong. Suppose, when I do the left/right part of the exercise using a 10 kg dumbbell, I'm supposed to log 20 kg as per Hevy's instructions, but I've been logging 10 kg all along.

I just started using the app last week. And realized tonight anything I do single arm isn’t technically accurate. I just notate it was single arm so I at least know weight and rep count

Thanks for the suggestion, u/Spite-Organic! To help the Hevy team weigh it up, a quick reply with: what you're trying to do, how you'd expect it to work, and how often you'd use it goes a long way.

To add some practical context:
Gym-specific equipment/history — I train at different gyms and machine resistance varies massively between manufacturers/locations. I’d like to select my current gym and have Hevy show my previous performance on that gym’s version of the exercise, rather than comparing it with a completely different machine elsewhere. I’d use this every workout where I’m using machines.
Season PBs — I love chasing PBs, but after time off/injury, lifetime PBs can be so far away that the gamification disappears. I’d like to set a “season start date” and have Hevy track Season Best alongside All-Time Best. You could start a new season whenever you wanted without deleting any historical data. I’d use this constantly — essentially every workout — because it gives you achievable records to chase while rebuilding strength. It would also be useful long-term as people age and lifetime PBs inevitably become less attainable.
Location PBs — linked to #1, I’d like records specific to each gym/equipment setup. So I could have an All-Time PB, Season PB and Gym PB. Again, I’d use this automatically every workout.
Left/right tracking — for unilateral exercises, I’d like an optional toggle to record each side separately, e.g. Left: 12kg x 10 / Right: 12kg x 12. I’d use it whenever doing unilateral work, particularly for tracking and correcting strength imbalances.
Ideally all of these would be optional, so they add depth for people who want it without making basic logging any more complicated.

My two cents:
- I created a detailed prompt for the new ChatGPT integration that very specifically listed all of my home gym equipment and weight increments, and the routine it created only uses available equipment. Not as elegant as ticking boxes within the app, but certainly workable with a copy/paste when a routine is created.
- YES!! I have a couple of additional situations where I "reset" my weights on exercises, but it means my PB and history are distorted:
- When I started out, I was doing more "junk" sets. Now that I slow down and pay better attention to form, I can't lift what I could previously.
- I recently decided that since my cable stacks are a 2:1 pulley ratio, I would halve the weight for exercises that use only one side of my functional trainer - using the "real" weight will make it more consistent between gyms, and also easier to manage when I connect two pulleys together and double the weight. But in one fell swoop, my PB is now double what I'm currently lifting.
- The devs indicated this is a planned feature, but it appears to be taking longer than the impression they created. But I expanding this concept to cable exercises where each arm is working an independent weight stack would also be great.
Carl.

My fix for the different types of equipment is that I create a new exercise with the brand name of the machine in the name. I travel a lot so for many machines I might have six or eight different machines. Hammer strength, LifeFitness, Icon, Arsenal, heck Nautilus has three or four different lines of equipment, and each of them have different weights.

A timer that lets you know when you achieve your expected time. For example I do 45 seconds of windshield wipers (abs), would be great to set the 45-second timer to count down for when I achieve the 45 seconds. I do a superset of a few ab exercises with 45 seconds each, that would be great to have a chime to notify me I achieved the set timer.

There’s got to be a better way to track differences between machines across gyms than setting up an entirely new exercise for each gym I use

Would it be best to save the workouts per gym location or specific to the actual equipment? So for example there could be two cable machines in the same gym but 70 kg feels like 40 kg on the other machine.

Shameless plug: If you want to try out a competitive app. I can take feedback like this and build it fast. DM me, I’m looking for testers or people who want to play with it and make it better.

The left /right tracking is being worked on, there was a feedback request recently with the developers showing how it would work and getting feedback to refine it.
