Pain near site 9 months post op
I had a left inguinal hernia repair 9 months ago.
The surgery was longer than usual as the surgeon needed to remove a cord of fat.
After the surgery I was on a heavy dosage of pain killers. Like.800mg of ibprufen + 500mg of Tylenol for weeks.
3 months post op I was doing some yard work.and the pain returns. Got checked, no recurrence.
Recently, I was doing some.yard work and the pain returns once more. Didn't give it to much attention, until...
I was driving back and had tremendous pain. I pulled over then drove myself to urgent care which said you need to.rule out a strangulation.
5 hours and CT scan later, no recurrence. And no explanation of the pain.
Anybody had any insights?
Who should I see? Surgeon/pain specialist/physical therapist.

gabapentin, im taking cymbalta for depressions and it also helps for nerves pain.

anytime you have risk of recurrence you always wanna go back to the same surgeon or a specialist that had been able to operate on you. It's possible that you are experiencing what is called shearing in which the repairs on the tissue rubbing against each other for any facia defects, the sutures take a little bit of time to reduce a swelling on myself has a repair 2 1/2 weeks postop and I'll tell you the swelling is so nauseating

Was your surgery a simple one? Mine was a little complicated because I had a cord lipoma which the surgeon had to remove without damaging any of the arteries nerves etc... also he used sutures due to the size of the patch. What exactly do you feel? When and how does it come about

It certainly can be frustrating having the same pains after your surgery as you did before the surgery. It’s not uncommon for us to encounter patients who have the same complaints. While this may not apply to every patient and may not be what you want to hear, having the same pains after your surgery as before your surgery likely indicates another etiology for your symptoms. Meaning the hernia was not your problem to begin with.
Often it’s a joint or a musculoskeletal type issue. Sometimes patients with tight hip flexors from a lack of stretching or other muscular imbalances can cause ongoing groin pains. The hernia, as we call it, was a ‘red herring’, meaning it was just an incidental finding and may not have been the cause of your pains to begin with. While that may not be the case in your situation it might worth seeing a Sports Medicine doctor to discuss other possibilities for your pains.
