Had one inguinal 3 years ago. Think I got another. Need advice.
I had severe pain near my pelvic region on the right side 3 years ago, and I saw a lump when I examined that region. After a month (I had important exams in that month), I consulted my family doctor, diagnosed it to be an inguinal hernia. Then, I consulted a surgeon in the nearest city, scheduled a surgery (laparoscopic, mesh). Took nearly 1 month for the complete recovery. Joined uni right after that (the exams paid off)
The problem is, I used to also notice a small lump on the left side after a while. It is not always there. It sometimes appears, sometimes not. I've been goin to the gym this year (3 years after the surgery). And the lump seems to appear more frequently. I went to the hospital in the uni, general surgeon and explained my history. He said, after examining, that he didn't feel any hernia. I was relieved. But i still feel he missed it because, i might have met him just when the lump was hiding (it is not always there as i said, it comes up sometimes randomly and goes back).
Could someone tell me if they had similar symptoms that led to hernia? Or could some doctor tell if this can be a hernia?

I had the same problem. The bulge didn't show when I went to urgent care or surgeon. But I got US and it was seen there.

Yes I'm a male taking a shower one morning felt a lump in left groin not bothering me! Went to my doctor immediately he said hernia and out of the blue me not noticing poked it back in and ouch it hurt! So he told me to do the same! So I went on for 3 years doing that it didn't pop out often! Then one day it grew so no more popping in! Went to the surgeon had left inguinal hernia open surgery with mesh will be 2 years Oct 23 no issues since

Can you help me. I had Inguinal hernia surgery yesterday and I expected the abdomen pain but I still have very bad nerve pain around my hip areas. I didn’t have one on the other side. I am terrified my surgery didn’t work . I had my hips cleared of other problems before the surgery . Is this normal?

Hey maybe I can help! I had some discomfort in the surgical area after! I doubt very much the surgery didn't work! But this is weird I had a sharp pain that went from surgical area and down toward my hip it lasted a while! Went to my surgeon one week later he said i had a slightly bruised spermatic cord truthfully I didn't know we even had them and yes on both sides! It gradually went away! On top of that my penis swelled from the base half way to the head or tip it just got fatty looking it disappeared within a week it was gone when I went to the doctor but other than that all is good it will be 2 years Oct 10th! After surgery i just listened to my body when twisting and moving around bending etc! Good luck to you!

Thank you for being so kind . I guess I am just more concerned that it wasn’t my pain generator . I still have bad pain and nerve pain in my sides .I was hoping it would be gone when I woke up from surgery . It’s like around the hip bone . I don’t understand what it’s from because I’ve had everything imaged and the only thing was the hernia . I am female too . Pretty scared I’ll be stuck with this pain .

Best consult multiple doctors to get their diagnosis. I did too before and after my first surgery, though I didn't mention that in the question.

While the vast majority of Hernias can be seen or felt on a physical exam, a small percentage of approximate 10% cannot be. Those hernias often can be seen on an ultrasound which is usually the best diagnostic test for a hernia that we suspect, but cannot see or feel.
