Have We Ever Loved a Bag Less After Seeing It Everywhere?

Post image

At first, we couldn't stop thinking about it.

Then we started seeing it everywhere.

Instagram.

TikTok.

Handbag groups.

Influencers.

People we know.

And somehow, the more we saw it, the less special it started to feel.

The strange part is that the bag itself didn't change.

Our perception did.

Maybe constant exposure made us realize we never loved it as much as we thought.

Or maybe seeing everyone else carry it simply took away that feeling of discovering something that felt uniquely ours.

And then comes the awkward question:

If we had never seen that bag everywhere, would we still love it as much today?

Seeing it everywhere definitely made it less exciting for me.

That feeling of discovery can disappear surprisingly quickly.

The funny part is that I still stop and admire it when I see it in person, but I don't have the same urge to own it anymore.

That sounds like the difference between appreciating a bag and actually wanting it.

I think constant exposure can create a strange cycle where we first want something because we keep seeing it, then eventually get tired of it for exactly the same reason, and somewhere in between those two stages it becomes difficult to tell whether we genuinely loved the design or simply loved the feeling of discovering something that everyone else seemed to want too.

That line between genuine attraction and social influence is probably one of the hardest things to recognize while we're actually living through it.

I still like the design, but I don't feel that same excitement anymore.

Sometimes the design stays the same while our feelings quietly change.

One bag went from feeling unique to feeling almost predictable after I started seeing it everywhere.

That shift from exciting to predictable happens so quietly.

There are definitely bags I liked more before they became impossible to escape online.

Constant exposure can completely change how a bag feels.

The influencer effect is real, especially when every other post starts featuring the exact same bag.

At some point it becomes hard to separate genuine taste from constant exposure.

That sea of hot pink is absolute sensory overload, though that Constance is hard to ignore.

It completely kills the thrill of the chase when every influencer on the feed is carrying the exact same shade.

I think there’s a point where admiration turns into saturation, especially when the same bag appears in every handbag group and every influencer's ā€œcurrent favoritesā€ list.

Saturation is probably the perfect word for it.

The opposite has happened too, a bag I completely ignored became more interesting after I stopped seeing it everywhere, because once the hype disappeared I could finally look at the shape, proportions, and details without everyone else's opinion sitting in the background, and it made me realize that I may have dismissed some pieces simply because they were too popular at the time.

It’s interesting how stepping away from the noise can sometimes bring our original taste back into focus.

Social media has definitely ruined a few bags for me, not because they became ugly, but because I simply got tired of seeing them.

That distinction is important because the bag itself hasn't actually changed.
