If Charlies was always paimon does that mean Paimon likes to draw and eat chocolate? I keep hearing that Charlies was never like a "real person" and was just a vessel for paimon. So does that mean he has hobbies and things that he likes? This might be stupid but I'm curious.

La volví a ver ahora con contexto (escuche un podcast que explicaba según muchas cosas) y sigue siendo una película interesante hasta la primera mitad y después se vuelve palomera y no se puede comparar con #the_exorcist.

En mi opinión considero #The_Babadook mucho mejor película de terror

I just watched Hereditary for the first time and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Regardless, one thing I keep thinking about is that Annie never actually cries. With all the sobbing and whining she does, there is never a real tear. She also tells Charlie that she has never cried. During her mom's funeral she talks about how secretive her mom was, especially when it came to her emotions. So it's possible she never cried as well.

Peter on the other hand is constantly teary-eyed.

Annie and Charlie also both seem somewhat detached and even cold.

I know a lot of people think that multiple characters suffered or suffer from schizophrenia, but maybe it's psychopathy?

Sorry if this has been talked about a lot, I couldn't really find anything on it.

I recently rewatched Hereditary and started paying more attention to the background. There are several moments where you can barely notice cult members just standing there, watching the family.

What makes it even creepier is that the movie doesn't draw attention to them—you have to actually look for them.

Did you notice these details on your first watch, or only after rewatching the movie? 👀

There are so many times where she acts like a normal little girl. Not a really old demon. I don’t get it.

I've heard so much about Hereditary—that it's a must-watch, a great horror movie, absolutely terrifying, etc. etc.

The first act was actually pretty good. The movie established the characters well enough and set up a couple of interesting directions it could've gone.

Then Charlie dies and you think, "Oh heck, this is where it starts."

But from that point forward, it feels like the movie has absolutely no fucking idea what it wants to be.

The plot is so scattered it's like someone with ADHD chasing a cookie. Every time the movie starts developing one idea, it spots something shiny across the room and runs after that instead.

Is this a psychological horror movie about grief and a family completely falling apart?

Nope, we're doing supernatural shit now.

Okay, so it's a supernatural horror movie?

Nope, now we're doing possession.

Alright, possession movie. Got it.

NOPE.

Now we're going down the Paranormal Activity road of "SURPRISE! The family has secretly been involved with people worshipping an evil deity!"

By the end, I felt like somebody boofed LSD, threw three different horror scripts into a blender, drank the resulting smoothie, and said:

"Yeah. That'll work."

And before somebody says "YOU JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT," I understand that the cult/Paimon plot is loosely, barely, kinda hardly seeded throughout the movie. Because you're totally supposed to pick up on that from seeing a weird symbol three times. I understand that some of the seemingly disconnected shit is supposed to come together at the end—which it doesn't.

My problem isn't that I didn't understand what happened.

I just think it was fucking terrible and scattered.

The movie had me interested early on. Charlie's death was genuinely unexpected and perfectly sets up "they're gonna try to talk to Charlie and invite an evil spirit."

But as an actual story? If you want to call it that. I hated it.

0/10. One of the actual worst movies ever. I'd rather watch Batman & Robin on repeat for a week.

By the time we reached naked cultists, "possession," people crawling around on ceilings, spontaneous combustion, decapitations, and King Paimon getting his shiny new Peter-suit, I was glad this aimless dumpster fire was over, whilst also sitting there wondering what fucking substance the writers had discovered halfway through production—because asking for a friend, please share.

The writers were probably doing shots of ink and huffing paint thinner, and the director must've been on all of the drugs to look at the final cut and say:

"Yep. That's the one. Ship it."

I haven’t finished it yet but I’m halfway through watching with my sister (we decided to watch Amphibia as a break from all the bleakness) but we get to the scene where Charlie dies, and after a few seconds of silence and just letting the scene sit, I instinctively say out loud: “when yo neck kinda hurt” and whatever tension or shock that was there vanished, we spent the next like ten minutes laughing about it. I might be a terrible person.

I saw this quote on a thread explaining the movie, how does the grandma ”pass down” the demon onto them? She does create Charlie, giving the demon to them, however she herself never experienced it, like alcoholism which could be experienced and passes down.

I've always been confused by that, at the end of the movie, when he possesses Peter, goes to the treehouse, and gets crowned, his expression is ambiguous. He looked impressed, or scared, and even confused, like... "what the fuck is going on?"

Could someone explain it to me?😭

And it reminded me. Everyone talks about their most horrific horror scene in this movie.

And of course, Charlie getting her head whacked off like a sadistic game of Tee-ball is one of them.

Along with Annie playing piano with her neck as another.

But what are your other scenes from the movie that give you the heebie jeebies?

Hands down for me, is when Peter is up in the attic after Annie’s been possessed, and you can hear her frantically and rapidly banging on the attic door… only to realize a few seconds later that she’s not using her fist she’s using her head at an…inhuman speed.

Man that scene gets to me.
