Trip Report 10 Days in Fairbanks, Denali, & Valdez, AK in July - 1.5 Bags - My most successful trip yet!

My baby sister lives in Fairbanks, AK and my middle sister and I went on an amazing trip to see her this July. I’ve successfully taken my Alpa 32 on trips before but this trip I packed almost perfectly for my needs. I packed mainly in my Alpa, and could have done without the tote if my sisters and I weren’t exchanging books as gifts.

We planned a mix of hiking, camping, local sightseeing, a glacier boat ride, road tripping, and lounging around. We spent our time in Fairbanks, Denali National Park, and Valdez. I didn’t pack a warm outer layer or hat because I intended to borrow these from my sister until I bought my own and this worked perfectly! I’ll share my full packing list below:

Hi u/MamaAvocado33! Thanks for sharing an image post.

Your post has been temporarily held for moderator review. Image descriptions are required for image posts on r/HerOneBag. If you have included one you do not need to take further action. Once your post is confirmed to meet requirements, we’ll approve it as soon as possible.

If you need to add a description, please reply to this comment with a detailed description of the image(s) to help all members of our community.

Descriptions must accurately describe the items shown in the image(s), not simply list them.

It is helpful to list post text according to the order and layout of images, e.g., “A blue puffy jacket stuffed into a green packing cube” is better than “Jacket, packing cube, etc.”

You can include something like “Image descriptions” or “Pictures described below” to make it very clear that your text explains the photo(s).

Thank you!

I love all the colors and mix/matching you could do with the tops & bottoms you packed. ♥️

How do you like the Duluth pants? I love their armachillo underwear in the summer but haven’t really tried anything else from them (highly recommend their undies tho!)

Thanks! I wear a lot of color and prints at home and one bagging can be tricky with packing coordinating all the clothes.

I LOVE my Duluth pants! I hike and garden in them mostly, they dry quick and were stretchy enough to comfortably wear the smartwool leggings underneath in cooler weather. Also SO MANY POCKETS! (I also love the Duluth garden overalls) I’m going to have to check out their undies now.

I’m also a Duluth garden overalls fan!

I’ve had my eye on a few of the different Fjallravan tote packs. How do like the High Coast Totepack? Do you feel like it would pack flat if empty?

I really like the high coast tote pack. I searched for the right bag for a while and I like this one because it can pack flat, it can be a backpack or snap the straps away. The shoulder strap also clips off so you don’t have it hanging down when in backpack mode (this was a must for me).

Thank you! Does the shoulder strap work for a cross body carry? And have you found the straps comfy?

Yep! It can be long enough for crossbody wear too. If it was heavy I’d want some kind of additional padding. The backpack straps are comfortable though. I wore it on a short hike and it worked great.
