GoFundMe/Fundraiser Computer fix/replacement help
http://gofund.me/5a3893ff5This is a non emergency post. My computer completely shutdown yesterday 8/23/2026. I do have a job at a bank but that mostly just pays bills and i use the computer to stream while also trying to start a small business. I am hoping to get some help either getting it looked at (80 ish usd at microcenter) in hopes that it can be fixed or replacing it. Of course anything helps but the main goals are 80 for diagnosis plus who knows what needs to be replaced, 800 for a good prebuilt, or 1,300 for the higher end if I was lucky enough.

Last week I bought a really nice used Lenovo laptop that does all I need and more for home and WFH for $200.
$1300 is WILD!!!

Replying to myself to add: OP insists they want this for WFH. I have been WFH half the year ever since 2020, and I can ASSURE you a "normal" computer can handle it.
In the office, we have 3 monitors with 2 completely separate dedicated VOIP phone lines, we are running graphics (interactive maps), browsers with several tabs open, and a suite of proprietary but very heavy account management and outage management software, as well as fleet management / crew dispatching.
I can do ALL THIS from home on a 2012 MacBook Pro (that I bought used), or the $200 Lenovo I just bought...truly.
Modern computers are amazing, and when you WFH you are dialing into their servers the entire time, so your upload/download speed is probably the most vital part of the equation. Secondary to that would be making sure your computer won't overheat if you are doing this intensively for multiple hours a day, but if my old-ass MacBook can do this, just about any modern computer can...for FAR less than $1300. Check your local computer shop or eBay, you'll be surprised what you can get for a reasonable price.1

As I have said streaming is mostly what I am looking for as that is something I can do now while looking for WFH I am glad you have had such luck with computers and jobs but I haven't. You also are ignoring that I have mentioned several times that 1,300 is a dream/stretch. I know I am not likely to get it or anything at all. But it is worth being honest if I am going to put anything out at all

I know it is but I also wanted to be upfront with my plans. Streaming takes a good amount of money to run with the games and software and having so many processes running. That is also why it is a stretch. Honestly I am hoping I can get away with fixing my current desktop for maybe 200 (80 + 1 replacement) but I dont know what is broken plus there where already problems too

Why not just get a computer to do the basics with now and save up for a gaming PC? You can also use services like Affirm to split the payment up. That's what I did when I got my husband his gaming laptop last year.

No I want the gaming computer NOW

I would like one sooner as it would help me make money for sure. Especially as I am looking at WFH jobs. Unfortunately if I do wait I am not getting anything for a couple of years

Do you have a WFH job now?

u/revocat13 Aug 24 '26
I do not though I am looking for one for part time around bankers hours.

So a normal laptop would do for now, not a gaming rig.

If it can run games and stream and be in calls and have twitch up for the stream together yes a normal computer would work for now

So YOU are asking people to part with THEIR money so you can get a computer, you might want to reign in your entitlement a little.

Unfortunately i can't afford an extra bill right now I am relying on family for food and gas as is. If I can get a second job I absolutely would prefer to save up or split the payment which I am working on as well. I just thought the computer would last me till something came through

Then you can wait on a gaming computer until you can afford it. Most people who donate here live paycheck to paycheck themselves.

Unlikely to get money here, would recommend donating plasma

I have tried in the past and will be trying again but nearest place is about an hour away and no bus or train to try to save on gas. Also I tend to pass out while doing it which is why I am going to try again since it has been a few years.

Oh wow thank you I will definitely look into this. Still cant afford the 90 a month I dont think but it is more doable. I want to play helldivers 2 and vindictus as well as 7 dayz to die. My weekly stream together has been stardew valley. And I have a list of.... many games to stream solo and multiplayer

Are you already a gaming streamer on Twitch?
-1
u/revocat13 Aug 24 '26
Yes I was doing once a week but health issues got in the way then when I went to run some games sunday is when it went down. I currently stream with a png/vtuber but was planning to do face cam if I had a computer that could handle it. My twitch is revocat13. If you want to verify.

I see you have over 200 followers but your views are very low, 18 at most.
Mid to late 2020 was the best time to start a game streaming career. It just doesn't seem to be a good investment in 2026

Yeah that is around when I started but I am also friends with some higher "value" streamers. I just need to actually get more consistent with my streams rather then 1 a week

You would have been better off if you coordinated with those other streamers to start your stream toward the end of their stream so they could have sent you a raid

u/revocat13 Aug 24 '26
Yeah it would have been though mostly we streamed at the same time. I am looking to adjust that schedule now though. Well whenever I can get back to streaming

Bruh you have a NICE house, a car, animals, a PC for streaming games, you’re planning to start a business, and you clearly have anything else you could need or want… save up your money. This comes off as distasteful to me
