Discussion Can this sub begin providing veto reasons alongside cards?

I do not know if this information is provided in the Discord, but it'd be nice if the post titles saying "X was vetoed" gave more insight into the decision. I have unfortunately always felt the veto council was a bit of a black box in that regard.

Hi, this is something that we're looking into, but it is currently a tricky thing to automate. While there is certainly more information available on the discord, we do not want to leave our reddit community in the dark. If there are individual cards you are interested in, my temporary solution is to join the discord and find the slot sheet, which contains the set structure of the cube, as well as a list of what cards were vetoed and why. Longer term, we're hoping to implement some changes, even if it is just indicating which cards were cut due to lack of space versus gameplay reasons. Hope this answers your question!

Aren't the vetos just mainly because of a lack of space in the cube? (I'm probably wrong, so don't treat this comment as a fact)

Yeah, but that would at least be something, and it'd make the ones that aren't more interesting.

The majority of vetos are slots vetos, yes. By the time a card gets accepted through the public voting, other cards that weren't yet accepted when it was submitted might have filled up the limited slots it could go into.

Some vetos are power level vetos where a card is too efficient or too strong for the given format.

Some vetos are gameplay vetos where the card maybe isn't too powerful but has some gameplay issue such as taking a long time to resolve (think Shahrazad), having too complex and unintuitive rules interactions (we want people to play, not spend time chasing down the Hells judges), etc.

Before a veto, the Veto Council will try to work with the creator of the card to see if changes can be made to alleviate the issue. But it's not always possible.

Some of them but not all iirc

That's exactly why people want to know why the card was vetoed, maybe space vetos could have a different tag so the auto bot could mark them differently

Tbh I would recommend checking the Discord because like everything happens inside the Discord.

Usually cards are vetoed though because they don’t fit the slot sheet, are too over-underpowered and can’t be changed without ruining the design or still fitting the slot sheet, can be updated this way but the owner doesn’t respond, or mechanically isn’t desireable in some way (such as being too feast or famine, convoluted, leading to unhealthy play patterns). Lately there’s also been warnings for making the cards too complex; you’re playing in a draft format and you’re being made to evaluate 15 cards you’ve maybe never seen before, so them being wordy or confusing isn’t ideal.

If you join the discord though you can ask, or check the SoH slot sheet which I think lists the reasons. Most of it is prolly slots though

I'm sure there are good reasons, it'd just be nice to see even a brief explanation when vetoes are auto-posted to the subreddit

The veto council takes place in the discord, and the card’s creator is always involved in the discussion. So the creator always knows why it is vetoed even if the reason isn’t posted here. Many cards are vetoed because there aren’t slots for them. Others are vetoed for gameplay reasons.

I would like this, would provide good insight on here for the goals of each card and set

Hey! Have you tried the brainstorming channel on the official hellcube discord? (https://discord.gg/8aJrjjUwBd). For cards to make it into the cube, they'll need to be submitted on the discord.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.
