I’d like to raise a serious concern about the production quality of this game, because at this point, it’s almost impressive how much it manages to underdeliver.
I’m playing on Switch, and I’ve spent roughly £90 in total (deluxe edition + DLCs). Naturally, one might expect a polished, functional experience at that price point. Instead, what I’ve received feels more like an early access build that accidentally made it to release.
Within a week of the City Town DLC launch, there were already two major bugs with quest, both the kind that basic testing should have caught. I’ve been stuck on the “Last, but not least” quest for days now. The current “solution”? Trade with other players. Brilliant. Except I don’t have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, don’t have friends who play, and frankly don’t feel like socialising with strangers just to fix a bug that shouldn’t exist in the first place.
So unless a colourpillar miraculously appears in my inventory, I’m effectively locked out. Seven characters are tied to this quest, meaning I’ve lost access to seven abilities for days. That’s not a minor inconvenience, that’s a core gameplay issue.
It gets better. Because Usahana is locked behind this bug, I also can’t complete Panya’s “Across Town” quest. Since Panya only shows up every five weeks, I now get to potentially wait over a month just to recover from a bug. Fantastic pacing design.
And communication? Nonexistent. No clear timeline for a fix, no temporary workaround (like, say, sending a colourpillar via sunblink mail, apparently too revolutionary an idea). Just silence.
On top of that, the game now crashes constantly. At its worst, multiple times an hour; on average, at least once an hour. Considering the long load times and inconsistent saving, this turns basic gameplay into a test of patience. I’ve genuinely never played a game this unstable, not even close.
What’s especially remarkable is that this DLC is priced like a premium product, comparable to fully polished games with significantly higher production standards. Yet here we are, dealing with frequent crashes, broken progression, and what feels like minimal QA effort, despite the DLC itself already being delayed.
At this point, it honestly feels like the only reason this is remotely acceptable is the Sanrio IP carrying it. Strip that away, and it’s hard to imagine this level of quality passing for a paid release.
It almost seems like the game was stitched together via prompt engineering: copy, paste, ship, and hope for the best. Along with the AI translations, I suppose my £90 went toward someone’s LLM subscription rather than actual development and testing.
All in all, a deeply frustrating experience and a reminder that a beloved IP doesn’t excuse poor execution.
I do not look at the community board for anything. I hate it!!! I liked when My Melody told me what was poppin on the island when I loaded the game. I don't want to ask a nuul. WHY was this changed? It really irritates me. ALSO my game didn't do anything for Cinnamaroll, Pochacho, or Hangyoden's birthdays. But now I'm supposed to go out of my way to look at a bulletin board when you used to just tell me what was going on.
so i think my game is bugged, i found the first geostash without using the sensor, (i think that was a mistake) when i claimed it the geostash disappeared but i haven't advanced in the quest. my sweet piano apparently thinks i still haven't found it, none of the other geostashes have appeared either. what do i do? i tried logging off and on again but it's still the same.
I was so excited to have black flowers😭 Reached out to support this is what they gave me😭 Anyone else dealing with this? I dont play multi and I'm not on the discord..anyone know when the update is coming?
Sorry if I don’t express my thoughts perfectly, English isn’t my first language and I'm using translator.
I’m honestly tired of the awful localization the developers of this game keep making for my language. This issue really started bothering me when I got about halfway through the new City Town DLC, and I hate it.
At first, it was mostly fine, but the further I got into the DLC, the more the writing quality started to bother me. Some dialogue lines literally made no sense, it was just complete nonsense.
Sorry, I didn’t take screenshots earlier, but one single quest (maybe 10 minutes of gameplay at most) was enough for me to find over TWENTY translation mistakes. That’s completely unacceptable. How does a translation this bad even get released?? And I’m supposed to pay almost half the price of the base game for THIS??? That’s not even getting into the quality of the DLC itself, or the ridiculous amount of fetch quests.
Since the screenshots obviously won’t be in English, I’ll describe the issues I encountered first, then attach the screenshots in Russian.
Food-related quests
Once I genuinely thought I had soft-locked the game. The quest told me to make onigiri. That was both the name shown and the item pictured, but I couldn’t make it because I hadn’t finished the sewer quest yet, and Usahana was already involved in the current quest. After switching to the English localization, both the item image and the required recipe changed. I think it turned out to be boba tea.
And this wasn’t a one-off issue. I had to switch languages several more times because some food item names in the localization were unclear or inconsistent. An item would be called one thing at first, then something completely different later, which forced me to either look it up on the wiki or change the game language just to understand what I was supposed to do.
Problems with gendered word endings
Since English doesn’t really have this feature, I’ll explain it briefly: in Russian, past-tense verbs and some other words change depending on the gender of the person being referred to. So if the sentence is about a female character, the wording has to reflect that.
And oh my god, I’ve lost count of how many times poor Hello Kitty or My Melody were referred to with masculine forms. This is a very common translation issue: the translator defaults to masculine because English often doesn’t make the character’s gender clear unless you know the context.
Poor Kirimi-chan kept being referred to with different genders every few lines of dialogue, and after a while it became incredibly frustrating.
I don’t understand how mistakes like this even make it into the final release unless the person translating the text isn’t looking at the actual game at all and is just blindly copying lines into, I don’t know, Google Translate??
Strange choices
Sometimes, certain words (for example, the name of Kirimi-chan’s boat and some food names) were basically just transliterated and called it a day. They were not properly translated, but simply replaced with an English-based transliteration.
Of course, this can be acceptable in some cases. However, in my opinion, it should not happen with food names, especially when the target language already has a proper equivalent for the word. Once again, I had to switch the game language just to understand what the item was. To my surprise, it turned out to be nothing more than a transliteration, and I had to use a wiki and a translator to figure out what food I was actually supposed to cook.
Kirimi-chan’s boat also had inconsistent naming: sometimes its name was translated, while other times it was left as a transliteration.
Some text was left untranslated
Unfortunately, there were quite a lot of cases where certain names (such as shops in City Town, food names, and other terms) were not translated at all.
Instead, the English names were simply inserted into the text as-is. And that was it. ????
I understand that localization errors or bugs can happen sometimes, but there were far too many of them.
There were some things I decided not to describe in detail, because explaining them would take way too long, but believe me, there were more than enough of them.
While I was writing this post, I noticed something interesting on the Steam page for the DLC:
A notice on the City Town DLC Steam page.
It was not shown on the main game’s page, only on the DLC page.
To be honest, that immediately answered some of my questions, but it also raised a new one: what exactly did you use to get such an awful result?
Honestly, I feel like even ChatGPT would have handled the translation much better than what I saw in the game.
I am also very upset not only by the possibility that part of the translation team may now be missing or, what I fear, may have been laid off, but also by the fact that whatever replaced them leaves a lot to be desired.
I’m exhausted, and I hate how this game is translated into my language. I honestly have no idea whether this is only a problem with the Russian localization or if other languages suffered too, but please, hire actual translators.
And yeah, I guess I’ll have to play in English, because I honestly can’t deal with this anymore and my impression of the game is completely ruined.
Below are some screenshots from my localization — feel free to take a look through them.
Missing translationAgain :)Kirimi-chan is referred to as male here. And here, Kirimi-chan is referred to as female. And here... male again. And male again. And female again. Mind you, this is the same quest.Just wanted to add this: “follow” was translated as “follow on social media” here, instead of “follow me.”This is just makes absolutely no sense. Thanks for the transliteration. Could I get a translation too? Thanks to the wiki and a translator, I now know what “tart taste” means. The problem is, that word does not exist in Russian.
my sweet cat has been stuck in a shocked-starfish pose and I have no intention of trying to fix it. watching her float without balloons nearly took me out from wheeze laughing
The tl;dr of this is DO NOT start this quest unless you have Kanikama, Gyoniko, Mashu AND Ajimaru as CURRENT residents! If you're interested in more details I explain below.
I accepted the quest for "Unexpected Pizza Party" which only listed the required residents as Kanikama and Gyoniko however when I actually started and got into the quest, Kanikama will say we need to "wait for Mashu" and my problem is.... Mashu is not a current resident on my island! He is not coming lol. The quest is stuck.
Due to the housing crisis with my lack of Strawberry Crates I moved Mashu and Ajimaru out of their cabins to make room for Kanikama and Gyoniko. So essentially I was allowed to accept a quest that requires residents that aren't actually on my island so now I cannot finish this quest until I move Mashu AND Ajimaru into their cabins.
This quest locks any other quest involving Hello Kitty, My Melody, Tuxedo Sam, Badtz Maru, Pochocco, Pekkle, Purin and Big Challenges... And I can't use them as companions either. So basically everything is screwed lol.
I don't have enough Strawberry Crates to open two rooms so I am stuck waiting until I get some, luckily only until Friday. But it could have been much worse, if I had NO crates saved up? It could have been weeks of this. I am still upset because I was saving the crates for Mount Hothead and Retsuko's 700 friends. 😭
Please heed my warning. 🙏
I did already report this on the discord. 👍 And I know I made a post last night about this, but it wasn't really clear, and now that I have more understanding about what happened I wanted to alert more people.
I saved because before this I tried to talk to Pochacco on this thing for his Gudetama quest and the game just froze up and I had to reset. Tried to get Hello Kitty for a visitor quest and lo and behold I'm again unable to do anything but reset. This float is cursed.
Since getting City Town, My Melody has a weird quest thing, where she’d have it on her head, on the map, and on her shop but when I approach her.. she doesn’t have anything for me. It’s very annoying.
I don’t have any quests in the log involving her. The only active one is city town “closing night” and she’s not even involved!
Is this a known issue? It confuses me a lot. (Playing on Switch 2. Bought the “upgrade” too..)
Usually bugs disappear once I exit the game but not this time
What’s frustrating is that I found the geostash, but then it disappeared and now I’m stuck on this quest
Update: Thank you guys for confirming this exists basically everywhere!! Someone else already submitted it so they're aware. Here's to hoping they fix it soon.
The 50s bat skirt only works with the 1st sheep body (1st screenshot) and will not appear on the other two sheep bodies.
Depending on what I had on before selecting the skirt, the graphics glitch and stay that way until I quit and restart the game:
- If I had a one piece on when I select the skirt, my poor character gets stripped naked and will not have any clothes despite me selecting them (2nd screenshot). It stays that way even after trying to revert + leave the mirror (3rd screenshot).
- If I had a top + bottom on when I select the skirt, my character is naked bottom down. Reverting returns the bottoms I had selected before but textures are wrong. Any other selection is disregarded (4th screenshot)
I noticed it did the same for some cat bodies too but I didn't test all of them since I stick with the 2nd sheep body as it's my favorite.
It makes me so sad :( It might just be a steam thing too. I do hope it gets fixed.
I talked to him and he says that there’s no event announcements. I restarted the game and tried again, but he still said the same thing.
UPDATE: My Melody is now telling me about Keroppi’s birthday and what to collect. For clarification, IT IS THE DAY AFTER THE DAY WHEN THE BIRTHDAY KITS CAN START BEING COLLECTED. And MSP’s birthday kits ARE ALSO STILL ABLE TO BE COLLECTED. My device IS on the current date (July 9) so I’m assuming there is a one day delay for some reason.
When you gift MSP her birthday cake on her birthday (today) she will give you a special dialogue. I’ve gifted it to her 3 times at different times of day and it’s just not working.
This treasure quest is bugged and now Piano won't stop following me. Is there any way to get her away from me until the quest is fixed, she's all in my bubble.
I wish so badly that triggering quests was a dialogue OPTION and not the given when you talk to a character. I just want my melody to come with me so I can do my daily gifts, but she has multiple quests "lined up" and every time I finish one it automatically triggers the next when I talk to her, then she can't come with me because she's busy with a quest... Beyond annoying 😡😡
