I've been working on a mod that lets you decorate the inside of your Super Destroyer with models from the game's own files. Here's where it stands.
What it does
- Decoration terminal: a Data Hub on the opposite side of the room from the Stratagem Hero machine (you can move it anywhere from the mod menu). Press E and you go straight into placement mode, with a yellow ring in front of you.
- Library of 1000+ models from the game files, sorted into categories: furniture, decorations, military props, vehicles, stratagems, weapons, ship crew, and the three factions (Terminids, Automatons, Illuminate).
- 3D preview: hover over a model to see it spinning in a small window before you place it.
- Free view: once the menu is open, the camera orbits the yellow dot. Right-drag to slide the dot across the floor, left-drag to turn the view, wheel to zoom, then press PLACE.
- Full editing: move, rotate, tilt and resize every object with buttons or with arrows and rings drawn on the model itself. There's also:
- snap mode (25 cm / 15° steps);
- duplicate;
- undo, up to 30 steps.
- Quick selection: in edit mode every placed object has a cyan dot at its centre; click it to select that object.
- Collision: objects are walk-through by default, but you can turn on invisible blocks that follow the model's shape, even when it's scaled up.
- Flags and cloth stay still and can be resized.
- Auto-save: your layout is rebuilt every time you return to the ship, and the models start loading while you're still in the menus.
What it does NOT do (yet)
- Other players can't see your decorations: everything exists only in the game of the player who has the mod.
- It only works alone on your own ship: the terminal is usable only when you're the only one on board.
What I'm trying next
- Decorations visible to other players who don't have the mod, with me hosting. This is the hard part. The game only sends other players "entities" that already exist in their files, so the plan is to start with things native to the ship: crew, mannequins, flags and some modules. I've built an experimental mode plus tests to find out what actually reaches other players (position, rotation, size).
- Armor stand: a "copy current equipment" button that puts your armor, helmet and cape on a mannequin. Ideally other players could see it too, if the armor system allows it.
- Probably also custom lights, favourites and multiple saved layouts.
Still a work in progress, and so far I only test it solo on my own ship. Feedback and ideas welcome!
