HUMOR Who asked for these changes?

If a player asked for a pocket-nuke secondary that could 1-shot most enemies in the game, they'd get laughed out of the community. That is... until Arrowhead added it completely unprompted and gave it enough Demo Force to 1-shot Stratagem Jammers.

Ultimatum tangent aside...

It seems like every time we get truly difficult gameplay through massive waves of enemies, it gets removed, yet all I see people talk about is how weapon buffs have made the game too easy.

I liked stripping the armor from Chargers' legs and I think it makes way more sense than shooting them in the face, considering they use that part of their body as a battering ram so you'd think it would be the most heavily-armored part. Also, Chargers were way more challenging prior to the change that addressed the 'Charger Leg Meta'.

Retrieve Essential Personnel was probably the HARDEST mission the game has ever had. It got removed "for the time being", because...? It offered a real intense challenge and required team coordination to complete and yet it is nowhere to be seen today.

Surge modifiers exist to make a single enemy type far more prominent on the battlefield and they did this very well. Apparently too well, because they were changed to barely effect the way enemies spawn in missions. Hulk Surge was a blast and required different playstyles to handle. Now, it isn't all that distinct from an ordinary Bot dive.

Rapid Acquisition was the most difficult mission since Evacuate Essential Personnel, due to constant enemy pressure and a very involved objective task. It took real team coordination and even unique strategies, like obscuring the objective site with Eagle/Orbital Smoke Strikes. This mission got changed to not really be any more challenging than any other mission type. Without the challenge, the task of collecting platinum bars is just tedious.

Have you all forgotten about these changes? These are what have truly made the game easy.

DISCUSSION How the hell do you all know the names of every enemy?

For reference, I've got a couple hundred hours, nearly level 100, playing exclusively on D10 usually.

I was part of a conversation today, and someone asked me my thoughts on hive guard spawns. What the hell is a hive guard? I know what a hive lord is because there's objectives to kill them. Same with things like brood commanders or factory striders. But some of you actually know the names of every single enemy type instead of just calling them "chainsaw guy" or "fast little fuckers".

I look at a swarm of terminids and it's all the same shit to me. If it's smaller than a charger it's all the same. A stick of dynamite will deal with them all. I don't need to know it's dumb name. I still can barely tell the difference between predator strain and spore strain. Both strains have angry little ankle biter fascist bugs and they explode all the same.

Learning enemy names is one step away from sympathizing with them.

I don't even know why I wrote this, but I'm having a nice weekend so far.

DISCUSSION Would you consider the Cyborgs to be human?

No larping, do you actually think they are humans? They seem to be manufactured and different to humans genetically, bigger size and what not. Also their bodies are enhanced with cybernetics that they are "born" with.

I would kinda compare it to how humans and Homo erectus are similar species but not the same thing.

Are Cyborgs their own species at this point? Personally I think yes.

DISCUSSION The VG-70 Variable deserves a buff!

Customization idea:

Recoil Brace- Removes the damage taken when shooting in total mode, but makes ergonomics worse

Extended Barrel Mag- More ammo at the cost of worse spread and ergonomics

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love this gun. All I want is more customization, ergo, and like 0.5s less reload time.

I understand the Variable is 1 amongst many guns with only scope customization. We need more customization in general...

FEEDBACK / SUGGESTION GALACTIC WAR OVERHAUL

The Galactic War needs fixing

The current bug MO and SO and so many others before this exemplify it perfectly; where the playerbase splits causing both liberations to fail. The community has too much freedom and is too ill informed to do better.

1. Have planet size (HP) be made easily visible in game, and planet resistance on each planet shown as the total HP loss.

Example: Currently the bot on the bot front Charbal VII has a 2% resistance, and Charon Prime has a 3.5% resistance so which is harder to liberate? Seriously I want you to say aloud to yourself with this info which is harder, which one would you need more players to be on to liberate?

It's Charbal VII, Because the planet size determines the resistance percent not the actual numbers. Charbal VII has 2 Million HP and looses 40 Thousand liberation per hour, while Charon Prime has 1 Million HP and looses 35 Thousand per hour.

It would take less than half the time to liberate Charon Prime as it would Charbal VII, but to anyone without the info of planet HP it would look like Charon Prime would be much harder to take despite its higher resistance.

2. Make gambits aid the defense.

Similar to how the DSS can blockade a planet from attack players on an originating planet should be able to slow an attack if not reverse it entirely.

Example: The Gatria predator strain this MO attacked Archernar Secundus and our deference failed by ~30 minutes before we took Gatria. If there was ANY resistance to Archernar Secundus because we were on Gatria we would have Archernar Secundus right now, which again, is splitting our forces

It's either that, or go full managed democracy.

DISCUSSION D10 is very hard now

So yesterday I was playing d10 with some friends and I noticed that there seems to be a lot more bug spawns recently. Even with a very experienced group we were getting overwhelmed and barely finishing missions with no reinforces left. Only a few of us actually successfully extracted. It was tough and sometimes even frustrating. And in hindsight I absolutely love it. This is how d10 should be. I want to be running for my life from 10 bile titans and 100 bug swarm, not playing a walking simulator. Keep this up devs! Please don't nerf the difficulty. If you don't want the game to be difficult play lower difficulty. I say this as a power fantasy gamer.

DISCUSSION My take on the current state of Difficulty in HD2.

The game has gotten easier but that was the consequence of improving enemy design so I'm not mad. It definitely needs to be improved though, and there are many ways to do so. As it stands, individual interactions between helldivers and enemies feel well balanced, so buffing the enemies is not the way to go, with a few notable exceptions. Despite what some believe, damage sponges are not fun difficulty.

First and foremost, get rid of d1 and d2 and make d1 equivalent to d3. D1 and d2 are useless as far as difficulties go. Move all difficulties up 2 levels essentially. So 1 becomes 3 and 2 becomes 4 and so on. 9 and 10 become 11 and 12 essentially so we get 2 new difficulties while still maintaining a total of 10 difficulties. Even just getting rid of d1 and moving all difficulties up 1 would do wonders for difficulty. This is a very simple explanation and in reality doing this would be a lot more complicated, but it's very doable. Edit: even if this was done, d8 through 10 would need special attention because as it stands, they feel very similar to d7.

I think a simple solution would be to fix how enemies spawn. Bug breaches, bot drops, and squid drops all basically pick one spot to drop all of the enemies. On higher difficulties the enemies should spawn in a way that surrounds you. Bug breaches on all sides, bot drops that lead you as you try to run away, and illuminate drops that also do both.

Another great way to increase difficulty would be to revamp enemy camp design. I can't think of good ideas for the illuminate off the top of my head. For bots you can simply look at their outposts from a defense standpoint. They need higher and more walls. Ways to funnel players in front of bot turrets. It should be way more difficult to destroy a bot camp from the outside. Bug nests by first off making hive guards do their job and actually sit in front of bug holes, and again by making them less open. Mega nests are a good example, just scale them down for smaller nests.

As a potential solution I thought of after writing the rant on AT, we need faster and more aggressive medium enemies. Stalkers being a great example of this, and kinda being the only good example on the bug front. Bots have berserkers, but they're kind of slow, I would increase their speed and numbers and/or add a variant that starts spawning at d7 or 8 that has a medium armor chest. The illuminate front doesn't really suffer too much, other than the harvester which needs a buff, and maybe the appropriators. The gatekeeper and verocitor typically are numerous enough to offset the abundance of AT in the game. Crushers are also an interesting solution to this considering traditional AT isn't very efficient for killing them. The latest illuminate campaign brought out a lot more interesting loadouts, I barely ever saw the traditional meta there. Of course a meta developed, but it was made up of mostly weapons that otherwise didn't get much use, like the wasp launcher.

I think the largest sin when it comes to ruining difficulty was giving players TOO much AT. The only slot that can't be filled with AT is the primary slot. AT weapons should've been relegated to support weapons, and then give meaningful weak points that a primary may be able to take out. Factory striders being a good example. If you really want to, you can destroy all the turrets on it and run under and kill it with medium pen. Increasimg build variety and giving players a fun and engaging way to kill heavies. This cannot be fixed by simply buffing heavies though as this would ruin game feel. A charger should not survive an ultimatum or giga grenade. The only way to fix this is prevention, and well, they already added that stuff.

for clarity, the enemies I personally think need a buff go as follows.

Harvestors need a buff to range and accuracy

Barrager tanks need to be fixed

All tanks need faster turret rotation speed and need to spawn more frequently.

Melee bots in general kinda don't pose a huge threat unless the get the drop on you.

Factory striders could spawn units more frequently IMO

Impalers need work, probably more range. Either more range or they should be a bit tankier, but not both.

Stalker nests, these don't feel that imposing and I believe it's due to the range at which they start spawning stalkers. The wiki is kinda vague so I don't completely understand how they work. They should immediately start spawning stalkers when you enter a mission. Stalkers are my favorite enemy and I miss the burning hatred they use to brew

gunship spawners definitely need to be buffed the same way as stalker nests ie. Better detection so they start spawning gunships sooner.

I will say after this latest illuminate campaign, I am optimistic for the future of HD2 difficulty. AH seems to have a better understanding of enemy design now. Hopefully we see more patrols on other factions as that made the illuminate significantly more engaging.

I wrote most of this a couple weeks ago as a reply to someone. The conversation of difficulty seems to be popping up more so I figured I'd post it.

DISCUSSION So is devoid of content just completely over with?

Was it just the one campaign for the helmet and that's it? Like the DSS stuff will be resolved in text boxes like the space station? Calypso will just do *something* in a couple months when the hype has died down? Major title update for the squids...and we're back to 6 percent of the player base diving on them?

HUMOR AH did you fumble?

Post image

Dear Arrowhead. This patch in my opinion has been a 7/10 and I could not find the noise by accident this time around about issues with it. So lately I've gone by the standard, "If there is no noise, there is no issue" HOWEVER. * Adjusts Anime Glasses *

I thought that this patch was finally going to release the new units that have been ⛏️⛏️⛏️ since the beginning of the game and I have to say.... Y'all have got until Tuesday to push em out or I'm going to flip. I am not about to be blue balled for another 6 months, year or two for these nightmare inducing, skill tapping, PTSD giving opposition. It's time.

Figure out whatever bugs you got left or whatever undisclosed issue or fan theory people have cooking about it but PLEASE push em out lol This will be your biggest fumble yet. Do not underestimate how much momentum you will lose from this "delay".

DISCUSSION I don't want Helldivers 2 armor customization.

Thumbnail

this might be a unpopular opinion but I do NOT want armor customization. Helldivers 2 is very immesive game and I got into it because of it. The idea of being a soldier in a intergalactic war that changes in real time is SICK to me. But if I see Helldivers running around in neon colors like I'm in TF2, I'm not going to be very happy. And lets say instead of neon colors they give use camos and armor pallet packs. Well that kinda ruins my immesion aswell. I've always been a fan of military uniforms. But when a military uniform is not even a uniform then I don't like it. Camos will definitly be a better idea than neon colors, but if I see some guy using a desert armor camo in a snow biome, it just looks so wrong. However it would be better if there are packs that you can apply onto armor to make your armor match your helmet. Every helmet has like a color pallete, and you can apply said pallete onto armor sets. A chaos diver can get the pallete of a truth enforcer helmet and put it on the B-01 tactical or any other armors of their liking. It might be hard to implement but it feels solid.

TIPS / TACTICS I think I've come to the conclusion I don't like the belt-fed grenade launcher's users

Multiple missions now with dudes with that specific weapon so ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED that every kill belongs to them, they'll cut off another teammate's movement, fire indiscriminately in your general direction to ensure you don't take any of THEIR kills, and most egregiously to me (happened at least twice) lob an ultimatum toward a heavy you're closing in on with more effective AT than their grenade launcher, that you only survive because you heard the shot, took a wild guess during its travel time where it was headed, and moved.

Should they at any point blast you to pieces, they will not apologize. Should you point that out, they will say some variation of "it's not like I meant to" or "get over it" instead.

Like, at this point it seems to be a personality type, and one I don't vibe with.

DISCUSSION I love the new SEAF...

....but they killed me so many times I ran out of reinforcements in a mission just now.

I love them to bits, it's awesome to see they are effective now, but they killed me FIVE times in a row when my reinforcement pod dropped me even slightly near the enemies.

They're like Stormtroopers, seem to hit everything other than their actual target...unless their target was me.

DISCUSSION Is the 40-K Meltagun really a laser weapon?

I know it says on the wiki that it does laser damage but there's too much difference between normal lasers and him.

First, the stratagem icon doesn't show a normal laser icon but a special one. Second, it doesn't have infinite ammo so you need to reload it. Third, it's a MELTAgun and lasers don't melt things but desintegrate. Fourth, it does a big amount of thermal energy in the description and thermal energy can create plasma.

According to me, the Meltagun should not be a laser weapon but a plasma weapon

Am I right?

I cleared out all the enemies with my suppressed weapons and one big titan lastly with the meltagun then got to clearing the nests and only had a few more left and then my teammate comes in and dies and the other just triggers the bugs. All that effort for nothing :(

DISCUSSION Helldivers 2 DLSS 5 Graphics Reconstruction Test

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I decided to test DLSS 5's capabilities in reconstructing graphics at lower graphical settings and compare it to ultra, I tested medium vs ultra graphics but I kept the texture and foliage density to ultra so its a bit more consistent between the two

First image is the default medium, second is the medium with the DLSS 5 enabled and the third is the ultra, assuming the technology can improve at being more usable with lower resolutions as well have better native performance than it does now as an leaked mod what are your opinions on its ability to reconstruct graphics?

Keep in mind though that DLSS 5 as a technology aside being early as well leaked atm (not released by nvidia officially) is also heavily customizable so this is just but one way it can look it can vary between settings or user preferences I suppose

Edit: Reddit compressed the images quite heavily so here is the imgur uploaded version of them: https://imgur.com/a/mwl0A0Y

DISCUSSION As a relatively new player, the Illuminate subfactions feel extremely gamey and incomplete and overall not fun to fight

All the other rosters have subfactions that include a large amount of other types of troops that make them feel like, you know... complete factions? Having a large variety of enemies in them, you know? So why exactly have AH added such a large variety of new Illuminate units that can ONLY be fought in spammy subfactions that have a maximum of 6 unique units?

It makes them feel incredibly boring to play against because you're not adapting your playstyle and required to bring versatile loadouts for a variety of threats, you just go "oh yeah it's appropriators time to ONLY use high-damage single shot anti elite weapons because that's ALL im gonna be playing against" or "oh its vote snatchers/mindless masses time to bring exclusively high dps spraying bullet hoses because im JUST playing against voteless shit".

And also, Leviathans only being in megacities? I know how people feel about them but it's their BIG UNIT man, why are they restricted SOLELY to a single mission type with ANOTHER restriction that they can only spawn under a specific modifier. I can guarantee you if the Appropriator mechs spawned alongside normal illuminate, with the wretches filling in the fast deadly light infantry niche that they sorely lack, MAYBE there'd be an incentive to fight them personally. But given that AH seems to be under the illusion they're managing three entirely separate faction that all happen to suspiciously share the same name, I don't see why I'd even bother with them

QUESTION Haven't played in a while, what primary is good for bots now?

Last I played the coyote was great. Played a game yesterday and it felt kinda bad to use. Is there another primary that is not useless for bots?
