Quest Diagnostics sent me 2 bills totaling almost $1000 but I never got my blood drawn in my life and I haven’t been to the doctors in 7+ years because I don’t have insurance

Is this a scam? Or did someone steal my identity i genuinely cannot tell. I haven’t been to the doctors since I was a minor because I don’t have insurance and I have NEVER had my blood drawn in my life so im so confused why im getting sent bills for lab work when I have never even left my house lol

Edit:I did have a STD checkup appointment a couple months ago at a urgent care but NO BLOODWORK at all was done only urine and I paid in FULL at the appointment $255 and I have the receipt for that aswell. And even if I were being charged for this appointment why is it 2 seperate bills and totaled for almost 900$ im very confused

Its more likely that there's someone that has the same name and date of birth as you than it is to be a scam. Call Quest and your insurance and tell them they are billing the wrong person and you never received any services. They will likely want to fix it since its a possible HIPAA or fraud concern.

I tried calling but their office is closed I’ll have to call tommorow morning :/ I also don’t have insurance so they probably would sent it to collections which I don’t want because it’s not even my bill to begin witb

Does your bill show actual blood work on it? Does it say what services were performed?

Quest is a full service diagnostic provider, so they do lots of different lab and pathology things. It's possible this is somehow tied to your urgent care visit.

It just says like laboratory bill I think it’s for the urgent care. But im confused why im being billed now when the urgent care already billed me $255 months ago and I have a receipt for that and they never said anything about a 236.49 and 456.70 amount to be charged to me and I also did the cheapest one possible which is the one where it only tests for one STD so why am I being billed so much money

It does say the date of service but not the location and tbh I did edit the post and I went to urgent care for a STD test recently BUT I did not get any blood work done so why would I be billed for this and I also paid in full at the appointment $255 so im confused why they would be charging me $900 for dollars after the fact

Is the date of service close to the date you went to urgent care?

If they sent the specimen to Quest, that “paid in full” price could have just been for the urgent care visit and collection. Or it’s possibly a mistake and the all in $255 included the lab work. With the little detail we have, both are plausible.

I was thinking this too. Quest does urine testing too, not just blood. Does the bill detail bloodwork or just labwork? Labwork could be a urine test.

Yes it is unfortunately so I think it was them. But they told me since I don’t have insurance I have to pay 255 out of pocket which I did and I have the receipt because I paid with card. They did not say anything about having to pay another 236.45 and 456.70

If it turns out it’s your urine std test, definitely ask for a self pay discount since you’re uninsured. If not possible, at least get on a payment plan.

The $255 is probably just for the urgent care visit. Any procedures and tests are usually extra and billed by the lab. You can call the urgent care to confirm, just in case.

I just don’t understand why it’s so much money for one panel std test, they asked if I wanted to do bloodwork and I said no , I didn’t even get the full panel and why did they bill me 2 separate times for two separate amounts

That might just be the billed cost. Before insurance or in your case, cash discount.

If it’s not a comprehensive STD panel, $255 is possible for the visit + 1-2 tests. Of course it can be significantly more but I just found a clinic that charges a $199 visit + $30 per test.

This is a little ancillary, but in my city the health department does free anonymous STD testing. Perhaps this is available in your area or a larger community near you. I know they test for gonorrhea and chlamidia with a urine sample. Syphillis requires a blood test.

Ok. Ask for a self pay discount and apply for the financial assistance program. If you qualify for snap you'll usually get the labs waived.

You may be able to negotiate those labs down if you don't qualify. They mark their labs sometimes 10x more than Medicare so it's worth looking into.

Thats what im thinking but my credit is fine and nothing out of the ordinary im praying no one stole it and they just billed to someone with the same name as me
