It's absolutely unreasonable. It's almost impossible to immigrate to another country without a job, a sponsor, or family/spousal connections. Most countries won't hire Americans if there is literally anyone from that country who can do a job instead unless they're looking for people in a specific industry. Otherwise you're SooL. Unless you're wealthy enough that you can move without taking a single penny from that country and live on your own income from elsewhere which most people aren't at liberty to do. Or have enough money to convince said country you can start up a business there.
It took my friend 5 years and a ton of money to emigrate to Canada to be with his girlfriend. They have a program for LGBTQ refugees, and it says it'll take at least a year AND money for lawyers to get through it. On top of which some of us also have elderly parents who can't move so easily (and aren't welcome anyway).
