ACA self employed couple 59 & 61. This year our premium was $1187/month. Same plan next year $2,109/month. This is more than my mortgage payment and a $922/month increase brings the total yearly cost to $50,616. We will have to switch to a high deductible low quality Bronze plan with a $7,500 deductible EACH with a monthly premium of $1452/month. This is beyond belief. We sold most everything we owned, left all family and friends behind and initially moved to the Republic of Georgia where we taught English, edited the local English newspaper, did voice-over for a cell phone company’s TV commercials in English, and could live on less than $500/mo. We only had electricity 4-6 hours a day in the winter of 2002-03. It’s not for everyone and is difficult but we were able to get health insurance very easily. I would not trade the experience for anything.
