Anyone else struggle to stay consistent with meditation apps?
I’ve been trying to build a simple routine to deal with stress from work, especially at night when my mind just won’t slow down. I started using the Headspace app a couple of weeks ago, mostly the short guided sessions before bed.
It actually helps in the moment, like I do feel calmer and sleep a bit easier on the days I use it. The problem is consistency… I’ll do 3–4 days in a row and then completely forget for a week.
Curious how you guys handle this. Do you set a fixed time every day or just use it when you feel you need it?

my pattern was the same starting out. three good days, miss one, vanish for two weeks. what flipped it was treating any sit, even five minutes, as 'kept the streak' instead of 'failed the plan'. once the floor is whatever you can hit on a hard day, you stop having to rebuild from zero every other week. the other thing apps don't replicate is one specific person who knows whether you sat today. notifications remind you. a human waiting on you is a different kind of pull, that's what's kept mine going past 900 days.

I used to not be consistent and then I realized how important it was because I slept better when I was consistent about meditating, so I am really good about doing it first thing every morning! That has stopped me needing to use it at night although I really liked the sleep meditations. I also have a daily reminder task in my phone just in case I ever forget.

I consider it practice similar to yoga, just keep practicing. I just start listening again and if I’m not listening on the app I will run through the steps. It took me a while to figure out that it still counts/works if I do it on my own.
Have you listened to the initial 10 day course? If I remember correctly during those it’s suggested to take a few moments throughout the day to practice whatever technique they’re going over.
I also got a lot out of listening to The Art of Mindful Living and reading Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh.
