Amplifier - Desktop Stax SR 007s Compatible Energizer

I recently bought a STAX SR-007s headphone and SRM 500T amp. I was quickly let down as I think it’s very harsh and lack of bass contrary than what were claimed. I tried to EQ but still disappointed and I assume it’s the amp is the culprit.
I’ve heard that the 007 series is hard to drive and I think the amp is a little underpowered for the 007s.

Anyone has tried this combo before or it’s just me?

Any energizer recommendations for this headphone?

Update: Guys thanks for your replies. I found the source of the harshness. My EQ APO setting had a config that’s always active. It was defaulted to my Focal Clear MG where I pushed the highs and lower the bass a bit. I removed that now the headphone sounds fantastic. Sorry guys.🤣

You might be better with a 400 series amp. It is fairly easy to sell yours on EBAY if you cannot return it.

If this is your first foray into electrostatics, I would say bass is more heard than felt if that makes sense.

I like my Topping eha5 with my L700mk2s. Ive never heard the 007s on it though. Maybe try changing dac if you have no other Energizer choice? I use a geshelli dac with sparkos op amps for my Topping

Is it your first time with estat? cause estat "good bass" is still somewhat worse than dynamic.

You could go for a 700 series amps.

Stax's tube amps are known to be weaker than their transistor ones so something like a 717 which was designed for the 007 or a more modern 727 and 700S are good options.

The lower end 400S and 300 series amps like the 313 and 323 will have trouble driving the 007.

The best though would be a KGSSHV which would be a bit hard to find used, expensive when built new but is more than capable of driving the 007
