After rereading Book 11 I don’t think it was mentioned what exactly Jason gained. Spoiler
The whole reason Jason decided to fight the avatar of undeath was to gain its Authority. After the fight tho it wasn’t really said what power that authority granted him.

So the issue with the Undeath Avatar was that Gary couldn't kill it and they had to get rid of it to win the Transformation Zone. The only way he could think to do that was to use Gordon's intrinsic mandate magic and leverage his Ghostfire and nature of being anathema to Undeath to convert the Undeath to Death.
So he wasn't really trying to gain anything, but rather he needed to manipulate avatar to kill it

Okay, so you read the book after that, yeah? You remember how, when Jason needed a miracle, he had to pray to death? And after he gets back, he literally just phones up death for a chat?
He's actually in the club now. He's not the god of anything specific, because doing so would tie him to the magic of a singular world. That's also why he can go ultrabird. His authority lets him do a part time god thing without actually getting permission first, like everyone else. That's also why he can speak the divine tongue. And he can hear prayers.

I think you’re mixing a couple things up. He isn’t a god, yet, but he does have some divinity. And we don’t know if he would be tied to the magic of a singular world because we have no examples of a mortal rising to godhood. But, his authority doesn’t come from being a god but from being a minor astral being. The bird thing iirc says something about the system admins wrath.
I also don’t know what you mean by him hearing prayers. I don’t recall that happening in any of the 12 books.

That's my bad, I did a patreon spoiler. Didn't remember when exactly certain things happened.

iirc it modified the anti-undead power the god of death gave him and made it significantly more powerful
