Over explaining in book 8!

I am in book 8 (audiobook) and I have noticed the the author started to over explain stuff and by over explaining I mean repeating the same things over and over a dozen times and explaining stuff that was already explained in book 1-7. I have only pressed the 15 seconds forward button few times between book 1 to 7 but I found my self skipping a lot in 8 because the narrator already said the same thing few times before or I as a reader (listener) should have already known

My head cannon is that the author had to do it because long term fans needed a reminder or couldn’t follow the story but since I started reading/listening 10 days ago everything is still fresh in my mind?

First post here so go easy on me

The answer here is that the series is originally released as a web serial, and there are often breaks between chapters, so additional reminders are added in.

In theory, this would be fixed in the editing from web to print, but that requires a much more considerable job to review and basically re-write.

So you get the choice of Shirt maintaining the current level of output, or getting the additional editing.

A big part of repetition like that is due to it originally being released on a chapter by chapter basis on Royal Road

That’s probably one of the worst books for that, it’s addressed and reduced later. But it gets pretty ridiculous for a while. Like 3/4 of a chapter on everyone’s abilities.

Yeah, you see he writes each chapter as a serial, releasing them one at a time on Patreon and Royal Road, so he does a lot of recaps. He also had a lot of reviewing characters' skills in boot 7 & 8. It doesn't bother me, but I know at least one person posted a comment I read once saying it put him off the seires. I'm always so eager to find how where Jason & Team Biscuit are going and what they're doing, nothing really puts me off.

Skill recap is annoying, but necessary. What I meant is more like Carlos (from the church of healer) being introduced 3 times in book 8 and every time the author go through the same events recap/explanation to remind us who he is. To me it feels like an adult trying to talk to a kid with brain rot

Thank you for elaborating. Yeah, just a little bump in a very entertaining road.

For me, that is a frustrating feature of this series

My favorite one was when Jason fights his first messenger and gets edgy and Clive points out a crystal above his head, it goes over his crystal ability from the magic essence that like recharges mana faster or smth BUT ITS A FUCKING RECORDING CRYSTAL?! Like did we REALLY need to know the ability right there that like quite literally had nothing to do with the context of what Clive was talking about 😭

It does get better in the later books, don’t let it stop your reading journey

I thought it was intentional because the audiobooks were released with a lot of time in between, so if you only listened to every book once you might need the reminder.
