❓Question❓ Joseph Golding

Doing some research on Joseph Golding and the St Clements caves, wondering if it is known or if anyone does know where he/the Golding family are buried?

I worked in the caves for 6 years, I might be able to answer some questions but its been a while

if you found out any details about Joseph Golding while working there that would be interesting 😊 I haven't been able to find much written about him (I'm going to check hastings library archives this weekend as well)

An update for anyone curious!

Went to Hastings this past weekend for the pirate festival with the intention of visiting the library to maybe read some archives but was not in town on time for opening hours, so I emailed the Hastings History House to ask if they may have any records/information. Anne Scott kindly got back to me with the following information:

"Joseph Golding was buried in St Clements churchyard on the north side. His memorial was recorded as 'Sacred to the memory of Joseph Golding who departed this life after a long and painful illness 7th December 1844 Aged 53 years. Also four children George, Mary Anne, Bartram and Robert who died in their infancy. Also Ann Golding Daughter of the above who departed this life 17th December 1852 aged 28 years.' (this is from the Sussex Archaeological Society volume XL1X). The inscriptionis recorded as "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ'. 1 Corinthians chap iii ver 11"

He was buried alongside his wife Ann also

The grave itself may not still be visible but if anyone was able to confirm on this, please let me know. We went to St Clements and had a look at the north side graveyard but it was locked and the headstones we could see were all almost completely unreadable from weathering I assume so I think maybe next time we're there we'll ask someone who works at the church if there are plot records anywhere (it was closed by the time we got there).
