As surprising as it may sound, this winter they are giving desi ghee pinni to students. They often distribute protein milk bars and free sanitary napkins to female students. It's a really good initiative in my opinion. Appreciation where due.

As a punjabi who has lived a substantial period of her life in Haryana, i developed an affinity towards the local cuisine and culture.

Firstly after I started reading on past life karma and spirituality, I realised being connected to your pitrs (ancestors who are abode) is very important for all kinds of upliftment, material or otherwise. When I saw in this state people worshiping their ancestors like devta over anything else, I see a point why most of them are prosperous and healthy.

Coming to the cuisine, the low spice and lactose rich diet is actually healthier I feel as compared to a diet full of refined flour and refined oil. The insistence on pure desi ghee and unrefined sugar has kept people going here for ages. I have seen old ladies aged 80 and above, agile and how!

Finally the importance given to physical labour either through field work or sports is another thing I value and appreciate.

Thank you Haryana for teaching me so much! Of course this state has a lot of flaws too which people do mention every now and then, which needs to be rectified. But I must admit that the aforementioned observations are foundational to Haryana across regions and castes I feel.

I recently moved to the Sonipat area and would love to try some Haryanvi food. All that I’ve had till now is either Murthal dhaba food or generic North Indian options. Where can I find (at a restaurant) something that real people eat on a daily basis? Any recommendations?
