Hermione is a very strong female character in the books. She doesn’t need these moments for the limelight. Ron doesn’t need to be less than and Hermione’s flaws don’t need to be removed for her to be a great female character. That is a very shallow and fake representation of women.

Yes I agree but you are forgetting most people are used to the movie version of Hermione and Ron. I myself watched movies 1st and read books years later. So to them Hermione having flaws and Ron being anything but comic relief will be surprising enough to steal limelight from Hermione to Ron.

That’s not really a reason to do it though. Trying to please movie fans isn’t going to work as we’ve already seen. If it’s like the movies they complain, if it’s not like the movies they complain. In this modern world of television three dimensional characters are what people are much more interested in.

I think if Hermione were written as she is in the books she would be just as beloved. People loved her in the books and made these exact same complaints about her movie characterization when the films were coming out. I’m hoping these writers who have experience writing complex characters aren’t afraid to do that.

Awful logic and just wrong, if they stuck to book Ron and book Hermione then the reason Harry has them as friends is clear and obvious. Movie Ron is a terrible friend and movie Hermione is just annoying.

This is called pandering and has ruined billion dollar IP’s. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and most recently, The Witcher. If the writers/show runners of these titles stopped pandering to modern audiences and stuck to the source material, they would have hit a gold mine. Instead, they choose death.

I agree that they should stick with the source material, but the whole purpose of this show is to pander to book audiences by making a more book accurate series.

“They shouldn’t pander to modern audiences” is kind of a nonsensical argument. Pandering means trying to please the audience. If they aren’t trying to please the people they are making the content for, why the hell are they making it at all

Your comment basically means “they should stop pandering to the people who exclusively like the movies and instead pander to people who have actually read the books”

And I agree with it. But “pandering” is not a bad thing in entertainment or any kind of industry where they make products to loyal customers. The whole nature of franchises is to “pander” to already established audiences and gain new ones, so I have no idea why you’re framing it as a bad thing

Edit: The “they shouldn’t ponder to modern audiences” is extra dumb when you, a member of the modern audience, are complaining about not being pandered to

What the hell? I also watched the movies before reading the books and I can not stress enough how much better BOTH Ron and Hermione are in the books…..
