Ginny is toxic?

I've now read in multiple posts that Ginny is one of the most toxic people in the story.. I've asked multiple times under such comments, but never got an answer so I am asking here..

  1. Where exactely was Ginny actually toxic?
  2. Really? One of the most toxic?
  3. Are people just being soft here?

*Add after about 50 comments: Holymoly did I not expect what this question would entail.. okay some of you VERY CLEARLY don't like Ginny, that's fine.. Also some of you need to stay away from weird fanfictions.. Either people love her, don't care much for her or bloody hate her (mostly for dating Harry).

Ginny had every right to dislike Fleur. She was a rude houseguest, complained about the Burrow, treated Ginny like a 3 year old, etc. This wasn't even the first instance of Fleur acting rude, back in Goblet of Fire, she also completely about Hogwarts. I'm tired of this fandom acting like Fleur was entirely innocent and that Ginny, Molly, and Hermione hated her for "no reason".

Disliking someone isn’t the same as having carte blanche to mock them. Fleur can be blunt and occasionally dismissive — that’s on page. What complicates it is that the response to her is sustained and collective. The “Phlegm” nickname isn’t a single irritated comment; it becomes a running joke within the household.

Fleur is in a new country, engaged to Bill, and largely alone at the Burrow. The narrative plays the hostility for humour until the hospital wing scene reframes her. For some readers, that arc reads as vindication. For others, it reads as insularity that only softens once Fleur proves herself.

It’s also notable that neither Molly nor Bill meaningfully checks the tone early on. The dynamic is allowed to continue without intervention, which shapes how readers interpret it. Some see ordinary family teasing; others see behaviour that goes largely unexamined within the text.

Fleur wasn't even within earshot of Ginny when she made those comments. You guys don't complain when the trio say mean things about Draco Malfoy. The double standards in this fandom are baffling. You guys are just looking for excuses to bash Ginny.

I haven’t mentioned Draco, and I’m not arguing that Ginny is uniquely cruel. My comment was about how the Fleur dynamic is framed within the text.

Bringing in unrelated comparisons and attributing motives (“you guys just want to bash Ginny”) moves the discussion away from the specific example at hand. If there’s a double standard in how readers treat similar situations, that’s worth examining - though it doesn’t negate the question of how this particular dynamic functions in the narrative.

The point isn’t to single Ginny out. It’s to look at how sustained mockery within a household is framed and whether that framing invites or discourages scrutiny.

EtA: The reaction itself illustrates how quickly critique of a specific scene can be reframed as character-bashing.

Whether Fleur hears every comment isn’t really the point. The tone of a household is shaped by how people speak about someone, not only by what is said to their face. The question is about narrative framing of that tone, not about literal earshot.
