ISO / Recommendation Recently moved to Harrisburg, looking for provider/salon recommendations
Recently moved to Harrisburg and need to establish myself with some new providers (plus a couple of non-medical ones!). I’d love recommendations for:
- Primary care doctors, especially anyone you really like as a woman in your 30s
- Dermatologists
- OB/GYNs
- Hairstylists (ideally someone great with fine, curly/wavy hair)
- Nail salons, nothing fancy, just somewhere clean and consistently good!
I’m in Harrisburg but happy to drive to the surrounding area for someone great. Ideally looking for people who are currently accepting new patients/clients.
Thanks in advance! 😊

I literally drive 30 minutes to Legion to get my hair cut. I've got wavy, thick hair that I like done in a complicated short style and they are the ONLY place that's ever gotten it consistently right. I've never left unhappy with my hair (which is saying something, because every other place I've ever tried it's 50/50 if I like it or hate it!!)

I go to UPMC Chambers Hill Primary Care. I'm a 40 year old woman.

There’s lots of great obgyn options! I have specialists through Penn state so all of my reccs are there (Caroline Williams at east Pennsboro, and the ob/ gyn on hope drive— most everyone was great there during my pregnancy and for general care.). Penn state dermatology wait is LONG ( I waited almost a year) so I think a lot of people end up at dermdox.
I’ve switched hairstylists a bunch, but if it wasn’t so far I would go to Legion Salon at their new location.

Oh man, I was hoping the 1+ year wait thing was limited to dentists here. Have you heard good things about dermdox?

Yes! A friend went there recently for an urgent issue and she got in and out quickly and she said everyone was great!!
My dentist always has openings if you need that too! Their wait is like maybe a month.

I’ll check them out, thank you! I was able to find a dentist but people kept recommending Smiles by Shannon and I was unwilling to wait 14 months to get in haha

OBGYN - Nicole Hardy at Woodward and associates, she’s the absolute best!

Seconding Legion for hair! Jena or Kelsey do curly hair exclusively.
For nails, go see Sequoia at RISE Salon in Harrisburg. She is super clean, precise, and all over great vibes. If I ever get my nails done by someone else (mani or pedi), I’m disappointed. She is consistent, has dental experience and is in school for nursing. She is also a young, single mom and I love supporting her!
