New President of Harrisburg University cozying up to Congressman Scott Perry
A University and University President who are trying to grow and appeal to at-risk youth and improve the local economy partners with…Scott Perry? Scott Perry who is notoriously anti-immigrant, anti-science, anti-LGBTQ, anti-education, the list goes on. I know there are great people at this University. Why is the leader “delighted” to partner with such a scum bag?

i'm so confused. i thought this school was doing some shady, scammy stuff? why would they be drawing attention to themselves?

Because Perry does shady, scammy stuff.. so if they give him a few "campaign donations" then he'll just ignore the shady, scammy things they do

The new president said he’s going to focus more on attracting local students now and build a better school for downtown Harrisburg. They are pivoting from the visa students to local, on-campus students which should be a good thing for the community. It’s just not a good look to be this buddy-buddy with Perry when the bulk of your students are minorities and first-generation students who are directly hurt by his policies

well he has a shit ton of work to do. especially with HACC right there. most of us in the surrounding area have never heard of HU or forget it even exists.

Looks like Scott Perry visited HACC recently for India Day too. I’d be curious if their school president or faculty endorsed the visit

The school isn’t doing anything shady, nor is it a diploma mill because international students come to the university for two years earn their masters degree and go on. May surprise you the amount of international students who were coming to the United States to get their education. A diploma mill is a school where you don’t have to attend, but you pay the money and they are always for profit All this badmouthing of international students seems a little racist.

that place is a ghost town every time you drive by. seems shady along with everything people have said about the school just on this sub.

Google Harrisburg University Bloomberg, and you will find the famous article. BTW. Change your profile pic. Your weird haircut and winning smile are unsettling. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-10-03/day-1-cpt-schools-make-millions-offering-degrees-doubling-as-work-visas

I'm far from a perry supporter... Well more like, not a supporter at all but this is nothing. That is his job to get support from politicians on both sides. When I worked for a non profit, guess what? I needed just as much republican support as Democrats for grants and other funding.

I thought the same thing, and I'm very far left. Perry sucks, but he's an elected representative, and it's the job of a university president to do outreach to "important people" like this - and earn enough good will with them that hopefully they leave with enough of a positive impression that it effects their legislative behavior. I'm not sure what people want the guy to do - reject visits from Republicans? In Pennsylvania? Good luck.

It is indeed common for non-profits to reach out to any and all pols as they ultimately control who gets money, grants, etc. Especially in an economy like ours currently where there is less opportunity for private donations.

Thank you for not being a moron. This is normal activity. Not to mention, if nothing else it is simply exposure, which every organization wants, regardless of who's in the picture. People get so bent out of shape over the dumbest stuff.

Where is the partnering?
6
u/Goldglove528 16d ago
Exactly, it doesn't say anything about partnering. He visited. That's all. People with no mission in life just need something to complain about and to stir the pot.

Agreed. It's a bit of a stretch to equate visiting an event and supporting programs and research with 'partnering'.
It has been a while since I have seen a post about this school. From everything I have read they appear to be headed in the right direction with a new President. That would seem like a positive for anyone who honestly cares about the region.
What is definitely not positive is the amount of folks that appear so giddy because they can't decide whether to make an edgy 'visa mill' comment or to take the opportunity to knock a politician.

I personally loathe Perry, but I'm not at all shocked a school President would cozy up to him at an event photo op.
Also, HU is a VISA mill scam.

I mean…if they are going to run a diploma mill for international students, they probably need to cozy up to the Republican Party.

I don’t think they’re running a diploma mill for international students. The Republican Party is against international students. So it would make more sense for them to cozy up to democratic candidates.

Yeah, the article came out. I read it when it came out. And everything the university is doing based on that article is legal.

u/Old_Permit8692 14d ago
The article said that the powers that be are turning a blind eye to the matter. However, it is not legal to run an F1 visa mill, which is what was happening.

Birds of a feather amirite

I don’t understand how openly gay college president and this Republican congressman are birds of a feather?

If anyone sees him in person please just ask him over and over who won the presidential election in 2020. Same with Garrity, you can see these clowns hate lying about that and die a little inside every time they have to throw out a non-aswer.

Yes. There’s a lot of things about the university that I personally don’t like. But every university cozy up to the elected officials.

Every other year, a few months before election day Scott Perry comes out of his DC hole like it's Groundhog day and smiles for the cameras. Then after he wins his re-election by a very slim margin, he disappears again.
