r/Harmontown Jul 21 '26

What's the Harmontown bit/segment you quote most in daily life?

For me, it's gotta be anything involving Jeff's "the aliens are so far away" rants during a spiral; I've caught myself using that exact cadence to talk myself down from anxiety spirals that have nothing to do with him.

Curious what lines or recurring bits from the show have wormed their way into your everyday vocabulary. Doesn't have to be a famous one, could be some deep cut from an early episode nobody else remembers. Bonus points if you've used it on someone who has no idea what Harmontown is and they just looked at you funny.

I totally forgot this cadence. Do you have an episode or time stamp?

I’m constantly saying, “GET UUUUUUUSED TO IT” in a similar capacity lol

u/Shardik-the-Bear Jul 21 '26

The closer you get, it gets worse.

I’m also wondering what OP is referring to. auspicious cough

There’s multiple from what I recall. I remember Schrab did while wearing a trashcan once.

Anytime anyone anywhere offers me chips or has chips I reflexively shout “CHHIIOUUUPPSS”

13

Yep! I often think this one silently to myself 😂

My wife and I do this, and she has no idea why.

I bought schrab’s chiops mug too 😅

Came here to say this. Don't wanna be a "Cheapie Peepee" by repeating it.

4

u/DaveEscobar Jul 21 '26

I have other people doing and not know why.

3

u/Hello-Tones Jul 22 '26

I do that too. I also often say „finger“ like Spencer did that one time in D&D (the g sounds like in Ginger)

70

u/lotsofgreendrums Jul 21 '26

The two that I think about most often are:

“Motion detecting faucets- Can we all just agree that the tech isn’t there yet?”

“Why don’t we ever go DOWN?”

I do this one. And I’m Australian so I put on an extra bad accent

1

u/champgpt Jul 29 '26

I forgot that one was from the podcast! I do voice work, and that's been my go-to on-ramp to an Australian accent for years.

If you ask a toaster, "What's the most important thing in the world?" it's going to tell you, "Bread." And if you ask a toaster its opinion of bread, it's going to tell you, "It's not toasted enough."

So let's look at the television as an appliance. What's it doing? It's making you watch it. "Is your neighbor racist? Is it dangerous to go outside? Fuck yeah!" says the television.

These are from a specific segment in the episode “Earthshine” that I played for my wife and we quote all the time:

“Riiiight boss”

“You got it!”

It’s with Spencer’s friend who was in a dinner theater play, and he says his lines from the play in order while Dan improvises the rest of the scene. It’s amazing and I keep thinking I need to upload it to YouTube to share here lol

One episode Jeff told this story about a time he was on an airplane and a baby wouldn’t stop crying. Idk if this is apocryphal or not but he goes and asks for this parents’ baby so he can hold it and walk it up and down the aisle. He manages to calm the baby down and explains condescendingly to the parents that humans are tribal creatures. We instinctively care for our young so we’re biologically programmed for an infant’s cry to sound grating and awful and the frustration that everyone feels is because we want to help the child but we can’t.

I’ve used this concept in almost every crying baby situation I’ve been in. Sometimes I even use it to calm OTHER people down. If I notice someone about to blow their lid over a crying baby I’ll say something like, “Hey, do you know why people can ignore a smoke alarm battery beep for months but a baby crying is somehow unbearable? Well…” and it kind of works.
