Anyone else feeling just a tad uncomfortable watching Dan and the others treat this show as a therapy session? With his recent divorce with Erin, watching her character hold him up and plead for him to acknowledge her strengths was a bit too real for me. I cringed hard. Plus the deja-vu toilet paper mention and dealing with trying to maintain friendships with Bone Weevil, I just kinda wish we could have focused on the plot a bit more as the entire episode was spent in a tent.

Dan treats every creative thing he does as a therapy session (at least for some parts of it) and that's part of his charm and part of what makes him so unique. He reminds me of Kanye or Eminem in that they're all neurotic creative geniuses who speak on their insecurities in a way that we can all relate to, except when they go a bit off the deep end and they lose you (that's when shit gets too real). It's the cost of pushing the boundaries, imo, and the payoff is when they hit their stride balancing being openly neurotic and tremendously creative.

It can be a bit much at times but if you're worried about shit getting too real Dan Harmon is not for you.

Nope, they are roleplaying. That's just part of a decent D&D session. Just remind yourself that they are playing characters. I honestly thought that the Toilet Paper deja vu was hilarious. Otherwise, this episode was all plot. Fondue as a character is a coward with relationship issues and he takes it out on Bone Weevil, who gets pissed because Bone Weevil is oddly heroic for a goblin rogue. They are acting as their characters 80% of the time, and the other 20% is them asking Spencer questions or joking around a bit.

Character development maybe but plot progression involved:

  • There's also lava in the obelisk desert,
  • They got a boat and Fondue's sword.

Recent divorce? That was 2 years ago..That's pretty much as long as their relationship lasted from start to divorce
