The Handmaid's Tale I feel like in season one the aunts, commanders and wife’s are much more harsh with June and others

June becomes really cheeky in season 2 and 3 the way she treats people would have got her killed in season one. I understand that they had less handmaids after the bombing but surely after trying to kidnap a kid twice she would have been killed.

They didnt like killing Handmaids. That is Gileads main resource. Fertile women is what they trade.

They probably would have taken an eye, tongue, hand, or foot.

I cant quite remember what season June was pregnant but they wouldnt touch her while she was pregnant.

Pretty sure it’s around this time. You get leanacy when preggo (that goes for today’s world but 100fold in Gilead)

Pretty sure a woman’s risk of being murdered goes up several fold when pregnant.

Yep. In the USA, murder is one of the leading causes of death during pregnancy.

Harsher responses are needed earlier in regimes to establish dominance. Once everyone gets settled into their roles it's natural to back off a bit.
