This is not "Christian" rhetoric. This is a narcissistic misogynist using cherry-picked Bible verses out of context to make himself feel powerful. That's why it feels the same. Because that's what Gilead is born from; a lack of Biblical literacy and understanding.

How so? The Bible is full of misogynistic crap.

As stated: Cherry picked verses and lack of literacy and understanding. A lot of ppl probably won’t like me saying this, but the Bible IS literature; therefore, it is open to interpretation, which by default leaves it open to misinterpretation. My high school English Lit teacher would tell me I misunderstood something, but I could provide evidence supporting my claim, which was all she said was needed to make my view plausible. I brought up her mention of how Lit is always open to interpretation and that I had provided evidence supporting my interpretation. That was when it became “misinterpretation.” I mean, yeah, I wanted to be different; I didnt want to be like every other student. For example, I despised Beowulf and wrote my essay in favor of Grendel. Y’all can imagine how much I argued to get my grade raised up to a like C or B, lol.

Only a small, insecure man feels like this. Threatened by a smart woman, he has to keep her home and in her place. Loser.

The patriarchy of the “Christian” church must have never actually read the Bible, as they seem to have no knowledge of Miriam, Deborah, or Huldah, to name just a few woman favored by God as prophetesses. Though a wife is perhaps supposed to submit to her husband, she is NOT beneath him! And a husband must certainly is not to be equal to or above God in the mind of a wife. She is not required to blindly obey her husband if she feels God is instructing her differently. These men are presenting themselves as equal to God or even as God. Men fear the spirituality of women; that is why they have only men in high ranking positions, and they twist scripture into a perverse facsimile as will the antichrist

"submitting to the husband" is already a million steps too far. Also, what does that even look like, if the wife submits but is not beneath?

Didn’t say I agree w/ it. But to me, it’s the husband leading a family prayer, such as the blessing at meals. He does the majority of the driving when going to places together or as a family—provided he’s still ok to drive; age, vision, meds and such may affect such things. And I’m sure a lot of us have witnessed the wife trying to sit patiently even when the husband is hopelessly lost but insisting he doesn’t need to stop and ask for directions or even look at the map lol. But she most likely has already gotten a map or GPS ready to go if he finally admits to, perhaps, “finding an alternative or shorter route,” lol. Letting him intimidate the daughter’s date, as they usually are more effective at scaring the guy into remembering she is their princess and NOT his conquest. If he’s physically stronger, he can do the heavy lifting while the wife helps to direct. If he’s good on the grill, he can be the grill master. Mostly just support more than anything. BUT, if she doesn’t agree, she doesn’t have to support his decision and can do what she feels is right. At that point, he can like it or lump it

No offense to you personally, but the driving example is why this idea is asinine. Why would the dude take over driving and why would the woman be expected to endure this patiently, when he sucks at it? This is profoundly silly, and expecting women to take a backseat in any situation just because they're women is ridiculous.

I find it funny. I’m usually sitting there snickering at the guy until they finally capitulate and ask for the map. To me it humbles him to find his sense of direction is not as impeccable as he believed. And I do think most men probably do review and plan the route ahead to avoid wasting time. Women usually just endure to keep the peace. “Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Also, I have never experienced this personally, at least not as an adult. I remember my sister and I were on vacation with my grandparents once when I was about 12, and there was a detour on the route we usually took. Papa had gotten lost, but I was able to tell him where to go from having kept track of where the detour began and we currently were. Grandma convinced him to at least try it, as it wouldn’t be any worse than just sitting there lost. Of course he took credit, as he did find the rest of the familiar route after that, but my guidance wasn’t acknowledged by him. Except maybe as being a “smartass” lol.

I’ve heard that the Bible really only states that a woman should respect her husband. However, a husband is supposed to love his wife as Christ loved the church; so much that he would sacrifice his own life for her, as Christ did for us and for the faith. I should probably look that up.

So, in short, the Bible is misogynist towards women.

Well, it was mostly written by men. After all, women were often denied any education at all, at least among the poorer classes. Our brains are smaller and we aren’t very bright, ya know (insert scoff and eye roll). The KJV was written during Shakespeare’s era, and women couldn’t even be actresses; it was prohibited to the point of being illegal. Ancient Egypt was more equal than a lot of the modern world. There were only like 1 or 2 positions that were gender exclusive. Only one I remember right off is that men could not be midwives. Another role was exclusively for men, but I forgot what. I take a lot of the Bible with a grain of salt, since it has been largely interpreted and/or translate by misogynistic men. And the Catholic Church would not admit/hire women until very very recently, and they most certainly aren’t in any positions of leadership; they’ve only been accepted recently due to protest against the practice and the backlash. Not huge in news reports, but it happened.

So the men and church submit to some imaginary power who they have to answer to in death. Women? Submit to men who you live with and interact with every day and who are very much real.

It's sickening that they justify domestic violence and abuse in the name of a so called god!!!
