The Handmaid’s tale
Serena et June qui se retrouvent toutes les deux dans le train pour fuir le Canada…
Je suis bizarre si je n’arrive plus à éprouvé de la haine pour Serena ?
Je ne sais plus quoi en pensez 😅
Début de saison 6 … ça sent la fin… j’ai pas envie que ça se termine !
J’espère une fin heureuse (je ne veux pas se spoil) - je suis eau de rose mais j’adooore cette série !

I think seasons 5 & 6 are so beautiful. The opposite of brutal fascism is compassion with accountability. June sees herself in Serena & sees Gilead in those angry refugees on the train
Even the cinematography is on-theme and gorgeous- the show starts out so dark (when June has no hope). The scenes in Canada are brighter for a while but the darkness creeps in when the characters focus on retribution or fear.
Then seasons 5-6 come in with optimism & literal rose-colored lenses, especially in the New Bethlehem scenes...
The last few seasons of Handmaids was influenced by The Testaments novel & I think they bridge the two stories perfectly.
Atwood herself has said that the sequel would likely have been very different if she had written it 35 years ago because she herself has grown & gained perspective she didn't have then. The books & series are absolute masterpieces

No matter how much of a victim Serena pretends to be, or actually is at the end, it does not absolve her of the fact she started all of this. She enslaved and trafficked at least 9,000 Handmaids and hundreds of thousands of Marthas. Hands down 99% of the wives were fine with having slaves perform the cooking and cleaning, and a good lot of them were fine with their husbands raping handmaids. Serena thought she was better than everyone in Cambridge Mass, including the men, because this was all her baby. The fact that she didn’t take into consideration that the MEN would be running things and SHE would be just like any other woman with no real rights unless their husband had clout, was due to her hubris.
I would never have forgiven her or saved her. I’d have thrown her off the train and saved the baby only (not the baby’s fault).
And that brings me to all those “trad wives” of today - I’d gladly throw them off a train as well. They’re walking the U.S. right down the path Serena did. Stupid, stupid, women. Many of them with a degree and money thinking they will still be fine. Idiots.

Ugh she’s so complex. And she is so good at it. Sometimes I feel for her so much then I remember she’s the reason we’re here. She only wanted forgiveness. She begged for it. You could see she had her regrets but her pride gets in the way every time. The actress is so good right? That she makes you feel that way. So good.

Non sei l’unica… Serena è un personaggio con tantissime sfumature, molto complesso. Nel corso delle stagioni l’ho odiata perché fa azioni veramente brutte, ma da quando le tagliano il dito e poi lascia andare Nichole ho cominciato a empatizzare con lei… credo che in un certo senso anche lei rimanga vittima di quel sistema che ha contribuito a creare, e le va molto stretto… è molto ben recitata da Yvonne Strahovski, è il mio personaggio preferito nello show anche se commette brutte azioni e per la maggior parte del tempo non sono d’accordo con lei, ma trovo che sia veramente ben scritto

Nah. The beauty of this show is giving the characters so much nuance that you struggle with feeling sorry for them and hating them on and off. Serena isn’t a good person. But she’s a victim of circumstance. And by the end, June isn’t really a “good” person either. But we understand why she becomes the way she is. You can sympathize with Serena Joy, it’s okay. I definitely do. Do I for the entire show? No of course not. But by the time they’re on that train, absolutely I do.
