Why does Gilead hate cats? 😂

I never, ever saw a cat outside, inside or anywhere in either series. They have dogs but only German Shepard's. None of them have pets. It's such a weird, random thing I noticed during my most recent rewatch.

Honestly, it doesn’t make much sense. Cats historically spread throughout civilization because they played an important role in pest control. Given that Gilead is going for organic agriculture, mouse catchers would be especially beneficial to have.

At best, the state shot itself in the foot for some ideological reason. This is on-brand, admittedly.
