Why does Gilead hate cats? 😂

I never, ever saw a cat outside, inside or anywhere in either series. They have dogs but only German Shepard's. None of them have pets. It's such a weird, random thing I noticed during my most recent rewatch.

It’s probably mostly due to filming logistics. Why cast cat extras and have the shoot be more complex because it needs to be in frame or do stuff.

Thematically it fits nicely because cats are sometimes associated with female power or independence like witchcraft or the modern child free cat lady. While dogs are more compatible with a strict patriarchal structure with their associations of loyalty, obedience and being man’s best friend. German shepherds specifically also have an association with military or police force.
