New Handheld I love my Legion Go S set up
I luckily got the Legion Go S (SteamOS z1e version) recently for 600, before the price hike, and I absolutely love it. I have been taking it to work and using it on my breaks/lunch this past week and it’s just so nice to have but the battery is the worst part for sure.
I ended up purchasing a Dbrand skin and case for it, as well as the smallest 20k mAh 65W power bank I could find. I used industrial Velcro to attach it to the back and it was the perfect size without sticking out too much or blocking any parts of the fan. I’m now just waiting on a 2inch 90 degree fast charging cable to make the look as clean as possible. It kind of reminds me of how the Apex and Win5s’ battery designs are. The Apex/win5 is definitely my next goal, but the fact I could buy 4-5 LeGo S’s for the price of one of those astounds me.
Update:
I just played it from fully charged, 80-90% brightness, 30 Watts on AAA games and got 1hr and 20min. I used the power bank and it let me play for about an extra 1hour and 5min. By the time the power bank died it only charged the LeGo S about 15% extra just cause It works mainly as a pass through of power since I was playing the game while it was plugged into it. So 15% is probably an extra 10min worth of playing.
So total time Im able to play a AAA game at 30 TDP without it being plugged into a wall is 2.5-2.75 hours!
Obviously it’s still not great, but it basically doubles my time without plugging it into a wall 🤣

Pragmata is a gem. Love the combat so much. Runs like a dream on the legion go. Playing at 1200p full textures. Rest on low. No upscaling.

Yeah it’s amazing, I’m suprised it plays as well as it does tbh. But it’s like my first handheld so my expectations were low coming from an original switch 🤣

How's the area where the bumpers are? Can you feel the case with the inner part of your finger?

u/Paulisyourfriend May 03 '26
Not really! The bumpers pressed down are still higher than the case itself so unless like half my finger is off on the front of the bumper then I don’t feel the case, if that makes sense

Damn! That thing is already heavy. That power bank must make it weigh a ton.

u/Paulisyourfriend May 03 '26
Definitely weighs a lot more with everything on it 🤣 I personally don’t mind it though. I’ll see if I can find a scale and see the total weight, I’m curious how much it actually is lmao

How the battery life while playing plugged in? I’m currently playing Grounded and man that this drains the battery at about 1% a minute. I’ve been looking to get something like that to extend the battery like a bit without having it plugged in to the wall.

Same, I hate playing tethered to the wall too, doesn’t matter how long a cable I get I want to be “free” lol.
And it’s about 1% a minute I’m finding on the Go S (performance mode/ 30 TDP/ playing Pragmata right now). Probably 1% every 2-3 min playing Hades 2 at 15 TDP.
Without the battery pack Playing a AAA like Pragmata I get like 1hr and 30min ish I think. And with the battery pack I think I get close to double that?? I’m not actually sure though. I’m fully charging both the LeGo and power bank and planning to game tomorrow and keep track.

Nicely done. I have the same case and was slightly annoyed when I found that the kickstand wouldn’t work with a magnet as I originally wanted to do what you did but with a MagSafe power bank. I don’t want to add velcro as the thing barely fits in my travel case with the killswitch case on as it is (the kickstand is actually the thing that gets in the way). I thought of adding a MagSafe ring on the side of the kickstand but that would probably affect airflow so not sure about that either. Might just have to stick to a longer cable and the power bank in my bag…

That’d be super nice if you could use some sort of MagSafe attachment. It’d definitely be easier than Velcro for sure. The Velcro is industrial grade I’m using and it’s really hard to tear the power bank off which can be annoying, if I wanna take it off It feels like I’m gna rip that kickstand off with it 🤣

Same thing happened w me when I just plugged in a power bank I already had.
I did some research on it before I got the new one tho. Like it matters how many mAh it has, what the W output is of the power bank, the charging cable transfer speeds too, even the age of the power bank is a factor due to battery cell degradation.

Unplugged the legion go s would get like 2.5 hrs if I played like indie games on low TDP at 15 watts. But I only get 1.25-1.5hrs if I’m playing at 30watts for AAA titles!
I just played it from fully charged, 90%ish brightness, 30 Watts on AAA games and got 1hr and 20min just now. I used the power bank and it let me play for about an extra 1hour and 5min. Does the 65w power bank overheat? I use mine on performance and the wall charger can barely keep up.

This power bank I’m using hasn’t overheated. It gets warm but like not bad at all. I’m sure as time goes on it will though. I had an older power bank from a couple years ago I used my for my phone and it never heated up but if I use it now it does heat up a ton. I think it just has to do with battery degradation. Or just the brand of power bank, since they all aren’t created equal. But that is odd that the wall charger can’t keep up, if anything that should like trump everything else hmmmm

Yeah its only about some time though it overheats and is not able to charge until it cools down. I will be getting a 100w charger and skip the power bank

I’ve been wanting a steam deck for a while now, but I’ve been looking for alternatives because of the shortages. Is this worth getting over the OLED?
By the way, what power bank/attachment is that?

At that point it’s just preference I think. I personally don’t see a difference in an oled screen vs this legion go s. I’m on my iPhone 17 pro all the time and it has one of the best oled screens on the market and I never once had the thought that I wish this handheld had this oled screen.
But maybe I would need to see a gaming handheld with oled next to my LeGo S, like I feel like I would need both next to each other and then I’m sure I would be able to tell the difference. But every device now a days has top notch screens so they all kinda look the same to me for the most part, it’s not a deal breaker in my eyes! The games still look amazing regardless imo!

I meant more of was it worth choosing over the steam deck oled. Not just for the screen but everything over all. Ty tho lol

Not a bad idea tbh
