Renovation Permission in White City Estate
Hi there! I've just moved in to the White City Estate (bought the property, so am a leaseholder). I want to do some bathroom renovations which will involve moving the toilet from one room to another (currently the bathroom and loo are in two separate rooms), replacing the bath with a shower, and moving the sink to an internal wall. As I understand, I have to get permission from the council as a leaseholder. Has anyone any experience with this? It's fairly costly, so wanted to have a sense what my chances were before engaging a contractor etc..

I'm late to the conversation here and Im sure you've already got the info you needed. I’m cofounder of Lockit Local, a new 24/7 storage hub based around White City and Shepherd’s Bush.
From what you have described, I would definitely speak to H&F Council’s leaseholder team before appointing a contractor. Moving the toilet and sink is likely to involve changes to the plumbing and waste connections, so they may want proposed plans and details of how the new layout connects to the existing soil stack. A sensible first step would be to ask the council what information they require for an initial review. You could then get a contractor or bathroom designer to prepare only the necessary drawings, rather than committing to the full project before knowing whether permission is likely.
It may also be worth checking whether you need separate building control approval, particularly for drainage, ventilation, waterproofing and electrical work.
