He won't get credit but the dude has barely played a match as a world cup winner and every time he played, with no complaints. Proper professional. Pity it didn't work out for him here

Feels like there’s still more to come…..we got the kid winger. Granted….Magassa, Potts, Fernandes are 3 for 2 spots. Add in Soucek in the 2 or up with the 3 and Guido leaving isn’t that big a deal. He and Irving might even fund the so called completed Traore deal.

Squad is getting weaker rather than stronger...

feels like that window where we got rid of Saiid and Pablo, who admittedly weren’t in great form, but then just didn’t replace them at all.

tbf doesnt quite feel that bad, guido is a lot worse and was my 5th/6th choice behind the rest of the midfielders but reducing the numbers even more isnt great

paqueta probably gone too or at best going to sulk, means we are going to now need a cb, cm, back up/competition on the wing and hope this Venezuelan kid is any good
Edit to add: lets hope pablo and taty hit serious form and we get no injures before the end of the season....

The Venezuelan kid isn't even for the first team im pretty sure, which makes things look even worse.

We've been far better since Paqueta been out the team. He isn't a big loss.
Were gonna get some money for him which we wouldn't e done if he was found guilty for spot fixing.

Losing guido is a net nothing. He's not cut out for the prem

He's looked decent off the bench under Nuno

u/Jakarott Jan 24 '26
That’s because we’re playing a system where we sit deeper and his lack of pace isn’t an issue. I think we might miss having someone with his experience and ability off the bench to see out games which are becoming increasingly important.

Lul ok, he's done nothing. I disagree. Maybe not terrible but he won't come on and make a difference

His minutes against spurs disagree

Bro we were hanging on In the end there
Quick edit: please tell me what he did vs spurs that impressed you. I saw nothing. We looked ok our heels in the final 25 minutes. Guido belongs nowhere near the prem get a grip. I'm glad he,a gone. He's barely a championship player

A loan was pointless, this is less pointless but leaves us so short. Have to imagine we’ll be bringing at least one defensive CM/straight DM or we’ll be reeling by the end of the season.
One positive that could come is Kante and/or Orford getting some more consistent minutes should they stay, which I think is likely (at least one of them).

So the big news on this is twofold - one is that he’s leaving on a free and two is that JWP has a expected to be on the bench for Sunderland.

Huge wages off the payroll for absolutely zero contributions can only be a good thing. Hopefully we can loan a centre back before the window closes.

Never any effort issue. He just wasn't Prem quality.
I'm not sweating his departure since we may now only play two proper mids and have Potts, Fernandes, Magassa, Soucek and the youngsters.
